The rush to do something, anything, leads to crap like this...

At the Milford Plaza Hotel in Midtown, 120 rooms paid for by the city at a nightly rate of at least $295 have gone unused since mid-November, according to documents reviewed by The Wall Street Journal. Knocks on the doors of dozens of the rooms went unanswered this week

.

The tab for the vacant rooms at the Milford will be just under $1 million, according to the documents. A City Hall spokeswoman said the total cost of the post-storm housing program hadn't been calculated.

SHOCKING NEWS

Yes, They Are Too Socialists

Steven Hayward

11/2912

Democrats and liberals always bristle when you throw the “S-word” (socialism) at them, but have a look at the table below from a new Gallup poll released today: more than half (53%) of Democrats or Democrat-leaners say they have a positive attitude toward socialism. But I think the more striking number here is the line just above it: 75 percent of Democrats have a positive image of the federal government as opposed to just 27 percent of Republicans. Democrats are the party of government indeed!

While they may not be card carrying socialists, it appears they do like it.

I noticed weather.com had a big special up on all the new global warming impacts today. Then remembered the climate group is meeting vacationing for the next week.

Alright!!!!!! We finally are getting serious with Iran!!!

The United States set a March deadline on Thursday for Iran to start cooperating in substance with a U.N. nuclear agency investigation, warning Tehran the issue may otherwise be referred to the U.N. Security Council.

In organizational behavior, this is broadly called “perverse incentives”.

Designing good, effective incentives is not that hard.

This could be too radical, but how ’bout…

WIN >>> get paid.

Lose >>> thank you for volunteering.

NEW YORK — A tourist’s snapshot of a New York City police officer giving new boots to a barefoot homeless man in Times Square has created an online sensation.

Jennifer Foster, of Florence, Ariz., was visiting New York with her boyfriend on Nov. 14, when she came across the shoeless man asking for change in Times Square.

As she was about to approach him, she said the officer — identified as Larry DePrimo — came up to the man with a pair of all-weather boots and thermal socks on the frigid night. She recorded his generosity on her cellphone.

It was posted Tuesday night to the NYPD’s official Facebook page and became an instant hit. More than 360,000 users “liked” it as of Thursday afternoon, and over 100,000 shared it.

Thousands of people commented, including one person who praised him as “An officer AND a Gentleman.”

The photo shows the officer kneeling beside the man with the boots at his feet. A shoe store is seen in the background.

The NYPD Facebook page on Thursday posted a comment from DePrimo saying, “I didn’t think anything of it,” and updated it with a photo of DePrimo taken in 2011.

“I have these size 12 boots for you, they are all-weather. Let’s put them on and take care of you,” Foster quoted DePrimo as saying to the homeless man.
