Take a tour of new One World Observatory

That's cool to see, but I don't know if I would like to be at the top of such a high building, and that would have nothing to do with 9/11. It just looks a little scary. I remember feeling uneasy at the top of the Eiffel Tower, too, speaking of Paris.

The Week in Pictures: Tax Day Edition

Steven Hayward

April 16, 2016

April 15 is everyone’s least favorite day of the year—income tax filing day. This year April 15 fell yesterday—Friday—a weekday. But somehow this year the IRS declared Monday, April 18, to be tax filing day, as it always has in the past when April 15 fell on a weekend. What, what? Is Friday now considered a weekend day, too? Is it some kind of Post Office holiday I missed? Or is this just the Obama regime getting a little ahead of turning us into a four-day-work-week social democracy like France? Ah—now I think I get it. Anyway, good to see that Sabo is still on the job:

Democratic Socialist Venezuela Has No Toilet Paper, The Lights Keep Going Out And Now Cell Service Is Out Too… https://www.yahoo.com/news/venezuela-no-toilet-paper-now-lousy-phone-055513565.html?ref=gs

Caracas (AFP) - Things in Venezuela keep finding ways to get worse. Because of acute shortages, people can't find basics like toilet paper. Now, it will be harder to make overseas calls or watch pay TV.

The problem is this: the global drop in oil prices has made dollars much more scarce in Venezuela -- which is dependent almost totally on petroleum for hard currency. So local telecoms companies don't have greenbacks to pay international suppliers.

President Nicolas Maduro's leftist government controls the currency market, and distributes dollars to private companies as it sees fit.

The government owes local companies around 700 million dollars, which these firms need to honor obligations with foreign providers, according to the Chamber of Telecommunications Services Companies.

So as a result, for instance, the Spanish telecoms giant Telefonica will temporarily suspend this week long distance phone service for calls to countries such as the United States, Spain, Mexico, Italy, Brazil, Colombia and Panama.

Mobile phone company Digitel, which is privately owned, has halted long distance calling services and international roaming since April 9 because it cannot reach agreement with providers on new payment timetables.

But it is not just telephone service that is affected. State-run television company Cantv, which provides cable service says it is reviewing contracts with providers of local and international content. That means there is less to watch on TV in Venezuelan living rooms.Scissors-32x32.png

DOCUMENTS CONFIRM ERIC HOLDER’S ROLE IN FAST AND FURIOUS COVER-UP http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2016/04/documents-confirm-eric-holders-role-in-fast-and-furious-cover-up.php

“Fast and Furious” is back in the news. The reason? In January, Judge Amy Berman, an Obama appointee, ordered the Department of Justice to produce documents relating to the “gun walking” scandal that Congress had been seeking for four years. DOJ finally produced them, some 20,000 pages worth, this month.

For anyone who, thanks to the Obama administration’s years of stonewalling, has forgotten about Fast and Furious, here’s the short version. In 2010, a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol Agent was killed while on patrol near the Mexican border. The only two firearms found at the scene were semi-automatic rifles the Obama-Holder Justice Department allowed to “walk” as part of Fast and Furious, a firearms trafficking operation. That operation allowed approximately 2,000 firearms to flow illegally into the hands of Mexican cartel associates.

When the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform tried to investigate the scandal, Team Obama stonewalled. First, it denied that law enforcement officers allowed straw purchasers to buy firearms illegally in the United States with the intent to traffic them without apprehension. Almost a year later, it finally admitted that this is precisely what had happened.

Second, when the Committee subpoenaed relevant documents, Eric Holder’s DOJ refused to produce them, citing “executive privilege.” The House voted to hold Holder in contempt and filed suit to obtain the documents. Three and half years later, Judge Jackson ordered production of the 20,000 pages mentioned above.

Scissors-32x32.png

Holder and his subordinates:

1. Presumed that allegations about gunwalking in Arizona were false and refused to adjust when documents and evidence showed otherwise.

2. Politicized decisions about how and whether to comply with the congressional investigation.

3. Devised strategies to redact or otherwise withhold relevant information from Congress and the public.

4. Isolated the fallout from the Fast and Furious scandal to ATF leadership and the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Arizona.

5. Created a culture of animosity towards congressional oversight.

A Gender Fender-Bender At UofW

Steven Hayward

April 14, 2016

It’s getting so you need a scorecard to keep up with the correct gender nomenclature of progressivism these days. Like this official “Working Glossary of Terms” that the University of Washington uses for students to figure out how to identify themselves. If you click through the link and scroll down the terms, you’ll see that “Male” and “Female” are not options. Instead, you’re supposed to choose “Cisgender,” meaning “describes someone who feels comfortable with the gender identity and gender expression expectations assigned to them based on their physical sex.” Notice the telltale word about how your gender identity is “assigned” to you. (Question: why is pregnancy “assigned” exclusively to the female of the species? Seems rather arbitrary and obviously discriminatory to me.)

One year anniversary? Shoot, she's been campaigning for president a lot longer than that, and I don't mean just 2008.

The war ended in 1945 & this is 2016. That means the YOUNGEST surviving WWII veteran is 88.
Keep that in mind when you watch the video. Quite a few do not look their age.

KUDOS to Gary Sinise!
