Socialist France

Hollande's center-left model should be Gerhard Schröder.

Scissors-32x32.png

French voters threw President Nicolas Sarkozy out of office Sunday, voting for Socialist challenger François Hollande by 52%-to-48%, according to preliminary results. Both the new President and his supporters may soon find that more socialism can't solve France's ills, but that's not to say the voters were unwise to cashier Mr. Sarkozy.

France wakes up to its first Socialist President since Francois Mitterand left office in 1995. WSJ's Grainne McCarthy is joined by Eric Chaney, AXA chief economist, to discuss Hollande's leadership style. Photo: Getty Images

Five years ago, Mr. Sarkozy ran and won by promising to be a different sort of President. He succeeded Jacques Chirac, whose 12-year tenure often seemed to stand for little more than Being Chirac. Mr. Sarkozy ran as the candidate who wanted to restore dynamism to the French economy and to "rehabilitate work, authority, respect, meritocracy" to their proper places in French life.

********

This is a less gloomy outlook than I was expecting. I hope that the WSJ is right.

'We're Not There Yet'

It's 2008 again in America.

By JAMES TARANTO

Scissors-32x32.png

"The Obama campaign is going on the air in nine battleground states this week with a new TV ad that focuses solely on the president's record and the four accomplishments of which Democrats are most proud," ABC News reports, describing the ad as an "entirely positive spot."

Although the minute-long ad doesn't attack, or even mention, Mitt Romney, calling it "entirely positive" is not entirely accurate, as we shall see. But the new Obama spot does seem a conscious imitation of Ronald Reagan's "

" ad, which began airing at approximately the same point in the 1984 election cycle (on May 21, to be exact).

Tom Barrett’s War on Wisconsin Women

Mayor Tom Barrett is a misogynistic patriarchal oppressor

who thinks you look fat in those pants.

Scissors-32x32.png

Progressive women in Wisconsin are about to learn a lesson they should have learned four years ago when Hillary Clinton got thrown under the wheels of Obama’s bus: All that talk you hear from Democrats about “women’s rights” goes right out the window the minute any woman gets in the way of a Democratic man’s ambitions.

WH to France: Don't end austerity measures

President Obama's spokesman warned the new socialist president-elect of France not to implement his campaign agenda of ending austerity measures, indicating that such a reversal could damage the world economy.

"A balanced approach . . . Both fiscal consolidation and efforts to boost the recovery is the right approach for Europe," White House Press Secretary Jay Carney told reporters today. "That's an approach that he thinks ensures that the recovery continues while putting our fiscal house in order."

The shocking news that a Burlington mother’s stabbing death was watched by a stunned teen over a live iPad video chat opens new possibilities and difficult questions about Web evidence in a heavily plugged-in world, lawyers say.

“Welcome to the worst aspect of the 21st century: cyber horror and its progeny. This is just one more step in a horrible direction,” said defense attorney Jeffrey Denner.

AH! The tolerance openmindedness of our leftest Sisters & Brothers.

Notice I put Sisters first...that proves I'm in touch with my feminine side, and doing my small part to fight against the blatant unrelenting misogynism in western society.

That you still discriminate by noticing and commenting that there are at least two sexes means you still have a ways to go. Siblings would be a better term, but even that discriminates as it implies families are important. Fellow beings, or just humans, is really more in line with your goal.

Should know his opponent by about 8 central. I am quite sure that it will be his previous opponent, Tom Barrett, mayor of Milwaukee. They(BIL and sis) were pointing out the job loss in Wisconsin. Some one else besides me(Yeah) pointed out to them that 2/3 of the job loss were government jobs. I know that the job loss figures for private jobs would not be as bad if you would take Milwaukee out of the equation. Employers don't want to hire where the mayor is raising taxes!!! - And now he is running ads blaming it on the governorrolleyes.gif Also, as I previously pointed out, all this uncertainty about the politics caused a lot of employers who were about to bolt Illinois pause. Why would they want to move to Wisconsin when there was a possiblity that it could become an Illinois repeat in a few months?

There is a candidate that is running in the Democratic primary for Lt. governor that has said that should he win he will not lift a finger to campaign against our current Lt. governor. That is who I mainly went to vote for. In a Wisconsin recall primary, you can apparently vote for a Republican Governor candidate and cross over and vote for a Democratic Lt Governor. None of the local papers or TV made this known and I would not have known if KTR had not sent me an Email the other night. Long post overwink.png

OH MY GOSH!

WILL THESE "BIRTHER'S" EVER STOP?

WHAT IS GAINED BY QUESTIONING OBAMA'S BIRTHPLACE?

HE WAS BORN IN HAWAII.....END OF STORY!!!!

You may have guessed [by my all caps & bold] that I'm extremely upset, again, by another of the many 'birther' arguments.... I'm so over that...... [/sarc]

I read that his autobiographies [2 before 40] were to serve as an inoculation for America.......serving to broach touchy subjects in a way that his handlers can control & manipulate the story. I have every reasonable expectation that the "new" biography will be more of the same.

Unemployment Rate Without Government Cuts: 7.1%

OK, whoever spots the illogical reasoning in this 1st wins a valuable prize.

I don't know about your question, but it is sad that if we laid off all the government employees and contractors (state, local and fed) we would be close to 30% (assuming 5% are private sector)
