Free Speech and Anti-Semitism at the University of Pennsylvania

University of Pennsylvania president Liz Magill has become a great champion of free speech in recent days, making clear that the university "fiercely support the free exchange of ideas as central to our educational mission."

These are, of course, not heartfelt sentiments from the leader of a school trying to set a precedent by yanking tenure away from one of its own professors for her politically incorrect statements.

No, Magill draped herself in the mantle of free expression as the school played host over the weekend to the Palestine Writes festival, which included a gaggle of anti-Semites. Among them was the former Pink Floyd frontman Roger Waters, who has donned Nazi regalia and hung an inflatable pig adorned with a Jewish star from the rafters at his concerts.

In her statement, Magill noted that "many have raised deep concerns" about the anti-Semitic views of some of the speakers. She did not indicate whether she shared them. The school newspaper noted "past comments labeled as antisemitic by some." In other words: That's just your opinion, man! Meanwhile, the atmosphere on campus in Philadelphia is such that, in the past week, the university Chabad's sukkah and Hillel buildings were vandalized, and a swastika was found at a university building.:snip:

For Just $83,140, Princeton Will Train Your Son to Be a Drag Queen

It costs a staggering $83,140 to send a student to Princeton University, and that’s just for one year. Four years of this august Ivy League school will set you back a cool $332,560, and just think: for that kind of money, you could have bought a brand-new Corvette convertible every year and had some spare change left over.

But Princeton has its benefits: you may not be able to tool around in the glorious sunshine with the wind blowing your hair back, but for all that dough, Princeton will take your thoughtful, intelligent son and turn him into a prancing, preening, children’s-innocence-stealing drag queen. And they will do that in just one year, in case you can’t afford all four. Hey, it’s worth $83,140 to get in step with the times, isn’t it?:snip:

How New Jersey Is Working To Turn Kindergartners Into Climate Activists

New Jersey Democratic governor Phil Murphy unveiled a taxpayer-funded office that aims to turn public school students into "climate leaders," an effort that includes a call for kindergartners to donate to environmental groups.

Murphy on Tuesday announced the formation of the state's Office of Climate Change Education, which will work to cultivate the "next generation of climate leaders" through New Jersey public schools. That effort will see the office steer millions in public money to implement the state's Climate Change Education standards, which require public schools to infuse climate-focused instruction into most subjects taught at every grade level. The standards, according to the New Jersey Department of Education, call on kindergarten teachers to encourage their students to join the "fight against climate change," including by "making donations."

Murphy's announcement reflects a growing push from prominent Democrats to use taxpayer cash to inspire young people—both in America and abroad—to join the fight against the "climate crisis." The Biden administration, for example, has allocated hundreds of thousands of dollars in grant funding to create "curricular materials" that spur K-12 students to become "climate justice action researchers and change agents," the Washington Free Beacon reported in June. President Joe Biden's U.S. Agency for International Development has also touted plans to spend billions supporting "behavior change and communications campaigns" that "encourage youth's active participation" in the climate movement.

Murphy, whose office did not return a request for comment, has advanced an array of controversial climate measures since becoming governor of New Jersey in 2018.

In 2020, New Jersey became the first state in the nation to mandate its public school teachers to incorporate climate change instruction at every grade level. The topic also must be included in most subjects, including seemingly unrelated ones. In addition to its call for kindergartners to make climate "donations," the state's climate education standards examine "climate change as a topic for dance," ask students to examine climate-related art, and call on students to "name and label tangible cultural products associated with climate change.":snip:

'They/them' Utah preschool teacher proudly comes out as furry called 'Flint'

A preschool teacher in Utah opened up about her double life as a "furry," in which she detailed the struggles of balancing teaching kids and wearing the kink costume in her private time.

The 22-year-old teacher of Salt Lake City, Utah, who uses the/them pronouns, might teach young kids during the day, but her true passion comes alive by night when she transforms into a furry named "Flint," which is part of the "Dutch Angel Dragon" community.

According to the Furry community's website, Dutch Angel Dragons have "horse-like anatomy, feathered wings, no genitalia or digestive tract, long ears, and fur coats."

"As a brief summary of their lore, they are supernatural beings similar to poltergeists or ghosts. They walk among us invisible, as guardian angels. These dragons live on a higher dimensional plane of existence and manipulate energy in various ways to grant them physical capabilities such as flight or elemental powers and can use energy to allow themselves to interface with people and objects," the website reads.:snip:

‘Ethnic Studies’ Is CRT Peddlers’ Sneaky New Way To Stoke Racial Division In Schools

A key to the successful campaign for ethnic studies was the deception that it offers a unifying cultural learning experience, while in fact it stokes interracial hostility and delegitimizes authority.

Controversy over critical race theory (CRT) in America’s public schools has been a flashpoint in our nation’s culture wars since at least 2020. In Virginia, parents’ outcry against it determined the 2022 governor’s race, and red states such as Florida and Texas are doing their best to restrict it. In this charged climate, blue states are stealthily adopting a dangerous new disguise for CRT — “ethnic studies” — which incorporates all that worries Americans about CRT’s ideology, and plenty more, in a deceptively appealing package.

To see what’s coming, look at Minnesota, where this spring lawmakers enacted what are likely the most radical education measures in the nation. This is ethnic studies in its “liberated” form, which not only teaches race-based identities and “white privilege,” but incites students to take action to “disrupt and dismantle” America’s fundamental social and political institutions.:snip:

Drag University at Princeton Guess what's happening at the #1-ranked American university.

There is a new program, a new subject for study and teaching, at Princeton University, that should gladden the hearts of diversity, equity, and inclusivity devotees everywhere. It stretches the boundaries and pushes the envelope. Who could object? Well, you could, and I could.

Princeton, according to the latest list compiled by U.S. News and World Report, is ranked #1 among American universities. Think of that. #1.

And Princeton, no doubt hoping to solidify its status as #1, has just announced a new program that will train students in the Art of the Drag. Robert Spencer wrote about this here, and there is more here: “New ‘Drag University’ program at Princeton to fund students’ budding drag careers,” by Logan Dubil, The College Fix, September 28, 2023::snip:

Blue State Employs 'Get ‘Em While They're Young' Tactic - Math Class Now Includes Climate Change

American parents are well aware that the nation's public schools are becoming nothing more than indoctrination day camps designed to create fledgling liberal activists. Now included in the curriculum are things like social justice and transgenderism, but being excluded are the rights of parents to know what goes on in their child's classroom. While parents may be demanding that kids be taught things like reading, writing, and arithmetic, teachers and school officials are figuring out ways to sneak the left's agenda into virtually every subject children are being taught. The latest subjects to include climate change will be in...wait for it...math class and English class.:snip:

The Demons We’ve Made

The supporters of Hamas in the West are the products of a postmodern education.

Fyodor Dostoevsky’s 1872 novel Demons is, at its core, a story of fathers and sons, a story of two generations typified by Stepan, the father, and Pyotr, the son. Stepan is a composite stand-in character for the Russian intelligentsia of the 1840s, who looked to fashionable Western theory and socialism as the needed tonic to cure an ailing Russia. Pyotr, on the other hand, represents the chickens coming home to roost—a nihilistic fanatic par excellence who, born in the moral and ideological morass prepared for him by his father and those of his father’s generation, endeavors for nothing less than the total overthrow of society—“quick resolution by means of a hundred million heads.”

I couldn’t help but reflect on Dostoevsky’s Demons this past week as I observed so many little “demons” descend on college campuses across the country, marching and chanting in pro-Palestine cum pro-Hamas rallies, praising the most sickening and depraved atrocities imaginable. Unfortunately, as we all know, these atrocities were not works of fiction, but all too real pogroms carried out by the fanatical terrorist group Hamas.

The national group Students for Justice in Palestine hailed the terrorist attack in Israel on October 7 that claimed the lives of more than 1,300 people and saw the kidnapping of more than 199 more “a historic win for the Palestinian people.” The group later called for a “Day of Resistance,” claiming “the Zionist entity is fragile, and Palestinian resistance is alive.” Hamas butchers are featured prominently in the promotional material of this group. At my own institution, Purdue University, the local SJP chapter hailed the massacre of Israeli civilians—the worst anti-Jewish violence since the Holocaust—by celebrating “the recent uprisings in occupied Palestine” (Israel disengaged from Gaza in 2005) and by encouraging the campus community to not “equate the violence of the oppressor” with that of “the oppressed.”:snip:

Superintendent cancels Halloween, bans costumes in school citing DEI and potential harm to students' 'dignity'

A New Jersey school district canceled official school-wide Halloween celebrations, citing its diversity, equity and inclusion values and the purported potential for the festival to be offensive to people from various cultural and religious backgrounds.

Dr. Ronald G. Taylor, the superintendent of the South Orange & Maplewood School District (SOMSD), sent a letter to families on Oct. 6 explaining why any Halloween celebrations in the district will have to be held after school hours.

"As you know, SOMSD is committed to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion meaningfully - not just saying the words but also promoting an inclusive school... Our aim is to build a consistent approach across the District as to how our schools observe and celebrate holidays and special events," Taylor wrote.  "Each year, questions arise from families, students, and staff about what SOMSD schools will be doing regarding Halloween." :snip:

Princeton Professor Suggests Sex With Animals Is ‘Thought-Provoking’

A Princeton professor and animal rights activist called sexual intercourse with animals “thought-provoking” in a tweet on Wednesday.

Peter Singer is a professor of bioethics at the University Center for Human Values and has written multiple books including “Why Vegan? Eating Ethically” and “Animal Liberation Now.” Singer tweeted a journal article titled “Zoophilia Is Morally Permissible,” which he called “thought-provoking” and said “challenges one of society’s strongest taboos.”

“This piece challenges one of society’s strongest taboos and argues for the moral permissibility of some forms of sexual contact between humans and animals. This article offers a controversial perspective that calls for a serious and open discussion on animal ethics and sex ethics,” Singer tweeted.

The journal lays out a moral argument for sexual intercourse with animals, arguing that it is “morally permissible” and that there is “nothing wrong” with sex with animals. The journal was written under the pseudonym Fira Bensto in the “Journal of Controversial Ideas” and published in October.:snip:

Elementary school replaces Veterans Day celebration with United Nations 'Peace Assembly' to recognize 'tolerance'
Andrew Chapados

Nov. 10 2023

An elementary school in Redmond, Washington, canceled its annual Veterans Day celebrations in favor of recognizing a United Nations-sponsored International Day of Tolerance.

Benjamin Rush Elementary in the Lake Washington School District typically holds a Veterans Day assembly for its students, featuring the school choir singing "It’s a Grand Old Flag," "This Land Is Your Land," and the national anthem, according to 770 KTTH.

Instead, the school's choir will sing songs relating to the theme of "Tolerance, Acceptance and Kindness," with titles such as "Live in Peace," "Namaste," and “Amani Utupe.” The latter was composed by Patsy Ford Simms and was written in English and Swahili with the alleged meaning of "grant us peace, give us courage."

Denver schools adopt 'language justice' policy with goal to support native languages over English

The Denver school district is among the first in the country to adopt a “language justice” policy as a "long term goal."

The district would encourage non-English speaking students to be able to use their native language to learn as opposed to being educated in English, which advocates say is oppressive and rooted in racism.

Denver schools had about 90,250 students in 2022 with 35,000 multilingual learners with home languages other than English. The district has 200 languages spoken across the district, with Spanish as the home language for the majority of those.

The district included a draft of an equity document that includes a policy statement on "language justice." It was included in the Nov. 16 school board agenda. The document includes this definition for "language justice": "The notion of respecting every individual's fundamental language rights – to be able to communicate, understand, and be understood in the language in which they prefer and feel most articulate and powerful.":snip:

How one college spends more than $30M on 241 DEI staffers… and the damage it does to kids

One day after winning the national college-football championship, the University of Michigan was recognized as a leading competitor in another popular collegiate sport: wasteful diversity, equity and inclusion spending.

Having recently embarked on a new five-year DEI plan, UM is paying more than $30 million to 241 DEI staffers this academic year alone, Mark Perry found in a recent analysis for The College Fix.

That represents an astounding expansion of the school’s already-infamous DEI bureaucracy, which had a mere 142 employees last year.

And the price tag accounts for neither the money spent on programming and office expenses nor the hundreds of other employees who use some of their time to assist with DEI initiatives.

These expenditures are a reckless waste of taxpayer money considering the impact of UM’s last five-year plan.

It cost $85 million, and what did it accomplish? :snip:

Seattle teacher allegedly tells students identifying as 'straight' is offensive

" I do not use the term ‘straight’ because it implies that to not be straight is to be ‘crooked’ which could have a negative connotation."
