Mark Udall (D-Colo.) scrapped plans to join President Obama at a fundraiser in his home state on Wednesday, saying that he needed to remain in Washington for last-minute votes. The absence of the vulnerable Colorado lawmaker will again raise questions about whether President Obama and his middling approval ratings are an asset or liability for Senate Democrats as they fight to keep control of the upper chamber this fall. Udall's campaign said the Colorado lawmaker did not want to miss the confirmation vote for San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro, who was nominated to become the next secretary of Housing and Urban Development. (Snip) Plus nobody met him at the airport, other than the ubiquitous military guy waiting to receive the reluctant presidential salute. Not even Gov. Hickenlooper, who is also up for reelection. There was just a black car waiting at the bottom of the airplane stairs to wisk the never-ending-fundraiser to his hotel or wherever the heck he stayed. How soon they forget. Berkeley City Council members voted unanimously late on Tuesday to instruct local outlets to provide marijuana equal to 2 percent of their sales to patients on low incomes. That is so generous! The Iranian foreign minister was a guest on Meet the Press? Why? He represents a regime that stones girls to death for the “crime” of having been gang-raped. It is a criminal regime, a terrorist one. Why is Zarif welcomed as though he were a civilized man representing a civilized government? I recall when I sat next to a previous Iranian foreign minister, Mottaki, in Davos. There we were, looking out the window at the Alps. Surreal. I wrote about the experience here. There came a time when WFB stopped appearing on television with the Soviet spokesman Joe Adamov.
