No, Independents Are Not Just Discouraged Republicans

A Response To Josh Marshall

RESIZE: AAA

independent.voter_.jpg

The centerpiece of my thesis (discussed here and here) that Mitt Romney will win Tuesday’s election is his consistently strong showing among independent voters (ie, voters who identify as neither Republicans nor Democrats) across the majority of national and state polls, pretty much regardless of whether those are polls he’s winning or losing. On that score, I believe the polls; if they’re wrong about the independent vote, my analysis is essentially irrelevant. But if they’re right, I believe I’ll be proven right. If Romney goes on to win independents nationally by 5+ points and carry independents by more than a few points in states like Ohio and Wisconsin, he will win.

Obama can only overcome that kind of deficit among independents by decisively winning the partisan turnout battle – indeed, the polls that show him winning nationally or on a state-by-state basis do so almost uniformly by projecting a decisive advantage in Democratic turnout – but when you look for evidence outside of the polling samples themselves of that Democratic turnout advantage, you won’t find it.

There are two main arguments currently circulating for why Obama will win in spite of these factors. Both are premised upon the notion that the Obama-favoring polls are correctly projecting an electorate on the order of 2008′s D+7 (D 39/R 32/I 29) electorate, Scissors-32x32.png

Obama Wins 2008, In All Likelihood Loses 2012

Posted by John Hitchcock on 2012/11/01

Below are the 2008 election results from US Election Atlas.org.

us-presidential-election-state-by-state-results-2008.jpg?w=612&h=608

Note the Republican states are in blue while the Democrat states are in red. Republicans being red and Democrats being blue wasn’t always the case. Not until those folks at MSNBC switched it around (for propaganda benefits, since red is the color of Leftism and Communism and Socialism). It is my goal that here, at Truth Before Dishonor, the Democrats are once again reverted back to being red and the Republicans are once again reverted back to being blue. Because it is far more in keeping with the Truth about their respective political leanings.

Below is the 270 To Win Battleground States map (with my adjustments for Republican and Democrat. The Battleground states are unchanged.)

2012-270-to-win-battleground-states-1nov2012.jpg?w=1007&h=611

Compare the two maps. (singing)Do you see what I see?(/singing) That’s right, folks. Every Republican state in 2008 is Republican in 2012. Every Battleground state was Democrat in 2008. And Indiana, which was Democrat in 2008, with less than 50 percent of the vote (despite Obama having an ACORN-led 105 percent Registered Voter vs Adult Resident advantage in Indianapolis in 2008), is Republican in 2012.

The charts show what everyone in the know has known to be true: Obama is on the defensive, desperately trying to cling to territory he won in 2008 and losing ground. That has been the case since the day he was inaugurated. He has been doing his best to cling to territory won and hoping against hope that he doesn’t lose too much. That’s what happens when you push a lie-filled, anti-American, anti-Christian, Socialist agenda down the throats of American citizens, the majority of whom oppose what you’re doing. Don't get discouraged @logicnreason! The press lives in a bubble. They are missing the forest for the trees. This is not 2008. It's not even 2000. They have a vested interest in making assumptions to keep everyone tuning in.

It's no guarantee, but be confident that we will win. Believing we will doesn't guarantee it will happen, but teams who believe they won't win, won't.

four days...clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose.

By the way....anyone hear much from the "Tea Party"??

Talk about a movement that has either a) gone completely underground or cool.png has ceased to be a political force.

Not even FOX mentions them or their possible effect on the upcoming election.

Oh....and just a silly question....

It is now less than 100 hours until Tuesday when the polls open. Does anyone believe there are any voters who - by this time - truly and honestly do not know for whom they will vote on Tuesday?

All I know is that the tea party is ENERGIZED even if the antique mainstream press isn't paying any attention. Do not believe the Tea Party is dead. We're just quiet because we are working hard on getting this thing done.

I am hearing from ground reports that our GOTV vote is one of the most organized efforts ever. Our strategy for early voters is to get marginally committed voters to vote early, while the Dems are using their committed voters in early voting. Election day turnout often favors the GOP, even in years where we do not have this kind of enthusiasm.

Don't get discouraged! Dems know that disillusioning us will depress our vote. They are NOT going to win that game. We will not be tricked into complacency, or into believing we're going to lose.

So, Have you voted yet? Have any of your friends? Are you committed to helping at least one voter who voted for Obama to vote for Romney this time? It matters! Don't let the bastards get you down.

Clinton Heading to Pa. on Monday

Katrina Trinko

November 2, 2012 3:31 P.M.

Winning Pennsylvania may remain a stretch for the Romney campaign, but Obama’s campaign is rattled enough by the huge push in the Keystone State that Mitt Romney is making that they’re sending Bill Clinton out to the state on Monday.

And the New York Times (!) appears to think that Pennsylvania could potentially swing for Romney in these last days:

Romney wins endorsement from 150 former POWs

Hope Hodge

11/2/2012

Not long ago, the Romney campaign announced it had recruited more than 300 retired military generals for a special advisory board. Now the campaign boasts the endorsement of 150 of the nation’s most revered military heroes.

150 former prisoners of war have now endorsed the Republican challenger, according to a campaign announcement made this week.

Stunning Historical Discovery

By Peter Kirsanow

November 1, 2012 4:15 P.M.

Cambridge, Mass. — Celebrated historian Bertram Oxley has uncovered a memorandum from former Japanese Emperor Hirohito to Admiral Yamamoto dated December 6, 1941, showing that the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor was motivated by an offensive film made by Charlie Chaplin ridiculing Japanese cuisine.

“Contrary to historical accounts over the last seventy years,” Professor Oxley said in an interview today with the BBC, “What appeared to be a meticulously planned surprise attack was actually a spontaneous demonstration by moderate sushi connoisseurs in the Imperial Navy in response to a hateful and offensive movie. Thereafter, extremist elements within the Japanese military co-opted the spontaneous attack, transforming it into the overseas contingency operation sometimes referred to as ‘World War II.’”

The discovery has created a sensation in scholarly circles. “This is a remarkable find,” declared Reginald Smythe, chairman of the Progressive Historians Association and former Obama State Department official. “Had President Roosevelt condemned this movie — instead of uttering that infernal ‘Day of Infamy’ provocation — the war could have been avoided and millions of lives would have been saved.”

Reached at his home in Houston , former President George H. W. Bush, an aviator in the Pacific during the war, expressed skepticism. “It’s simply inconceivable that the Japanese First Air Fleet, with six aircraft carriers, could have staged a spur of the moment attack on an island thousands of nautical miles from the Japanese homeland with such stealth and precision.” Most experts dismissed Mr. Bush’s remarks, however, since it’s widely understood that World War II was primarily his son’s fault.

White House spokesman Jay Carney, asked this afternoon about the memo’s discovery stated, “Of course, hindsight’s 20-20. But one can only wonder how much pain and suffering could have been averted had FDR simply apologized to Hirohito at the outset.”

“Fortunately,” Carney continued, waving off questions from White House reporters anxious to return to questions about Mitt Romney’s grooming habits, “We’ve evolved to a more sophisticated strategy of leading from behind, so we’re unlikely to repeat the disastrous mistakes of the past."

He is VERY cute and I just can't imagine him not being our next VP.

What is interesting about this place is the farther away you get from the two downtowns...the redder it becomes. The problem is inside the 494/694 beltway, there is no Republican party....it just doesn't exist. And I could go off on a 3 hour rant about that!!!

Concerns raised over possible exploitation of mentally disabled voters

Gregory Phillips

11/2/12

Jimmy Green's stepdaughter had never voted before. The 57-year-old is mentally disabled, and Green said she doesn't understand the concept of casting a ballot.

But this week, she called her parents to say she had voted for President Obama. The care home in Fayetteville where she lives registered its residents to vote and drove them to the polls, Green said.

"My concern is that somebody told her who to vote for," he said. "She didn't even know there's two different parties."
