pollyannaish
Reports that the shooter was in his late teens/early twenties. That makes me think it wasn't a political thing, but rather an attention getting stunt.

Al_Simmons
The other possibility is that it was a religious-motivated crime (ie terrorism) Pima County sheriff confirms she died.

I've always wondered what makes a kid seek this kind of notoriety. No politics are worth that much in this country either, actually. But people so often lose all sense of proportion. Horrible, horrible day.

Good point. Well that would be a new strategy for them.

Geee
Apparently she was one of the few Dems to show up for the constitution reading and was asked by the Republicans to read the first amendment according to the Washington times. She was also a sponsor of the bill to cut Congressional pay. A Blue Dog Dem.

Interesting because some of the news outlets I'm reading are saying that she was one of twenty "targeted" by Sara Palin in the last election. Which may or may not be true...but that wording is designed to make Palin guilty for instigating the crime.
Geee
Of course the media is already trying to spin this as some sort of political attack. I sincerely hope that politics has nothing to do with it

The Republican who was originally running against her was beaten in the primary by a Tea Party candidate who lost to her in the election. Sarah endorsed practically all the Tea Party candidates didn't she? I read her district is a Republican-leaning district.

Even if she was a leftist wacko this is wrong and horrible obviously. But what bothers me is the subtle implications that I'm starting to see in the press that suggest its the right's fault. We don't know anything yet.
