MORALLY REPREHENSIBLE’: Senators Rip FEMA on Poor Handling of Illegal Immigrant Travel

Key Senate Republicans blasted the Federal Emergency Management Agency for shoddy record-keeping regarding the transportation of illegal immigrants throughout the U.S. 

FEMA distributes grants to nonprofit organizations for shelter and travel expenses for illegal immigrants, but last month informed The Heritage Foundation’s Oversight Project that it has no documentation about how that taxpayer money has been spent. “It is becoming clearer every day that the Democrats’ open-border catastrophe is not only being orchestrated by the Biden administration, the American taxpayer is unwittingly being forced to pay for this invasion,” Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson, the top Republican on the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, told The Daily Signal. The committee oversees border and immigration issues.

The FEMA admission that it lacks documentation for expenses comes less than a year after an internal federal audit stated FEMA is responsible for “a detailed accounting of all program funds.” :snip:

Florida sheriff blasts border policies after 21 charged in sex trafficking ring

An undercover human trafficking operation in Florida found that 21 illegal foreign nationals were using papers given to them by the Department of Homeland Security to fly to major cities in the United States for free to engage in sex trafficking, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said.

“Federal policy drives illegal immigrant crime and victimization,” Judd said when announcing the results of a multi-agency undercover operation that led to the arrest of 228 people. Among them, 21 people arrested were in the country illegally, citizens of Chile, Cuba, Guatemala, Mexico, Peru, and Venezuela.

Judge denies Republican challenge to Biden policy sponsoring thousands of immigrants

A U.S. district judge in Texas rejected a challenge from Republican states on Friday against a Biden administration policy that sponsored thousands of immigrants each month.

Judge Drew Tipton argued that the 21 states, led by Texas, failed to prove that the program, which allows up to 30,000 immigrants a month to enter the country, caused them any injury. The states claimed the program is making them spend millions on healthcare, education, and public safety for the asylum-seekers.

 

 

“The court has before it a case in which Plaintiffs claim that they have been injured by a program that has actually lowered their out-of-pocket costs,” Tipton wrote.

The states also argued that the federal government’s authority to use parole is “exceptionally limited” and can only be applied on a case-by-case basis, but Tipton did not address that argument.

The program, which began in 2022, has admitted at least 357,000 immigrants, as of January, from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela. At least 74,000 immigrants from Cuba, 138,000 people from Haiti, 58,000 from Nicaragua, and 86,000 Venezuelans have been admitted so far, according to the Associated Press. :snip:

For nearly four years, the Democratic Party has rolled out the red carpet and handed out freebies such as identification cards, pre-paid credit cards, and health insurance to illegal aliens, incentivizing them to stay illegally in the United States.
