I am having a sickening feeling that living in a mobile home is not the best thing to be doing today. Hoping power is the only thing lost.

Irene

Hang in there! Prayers and thoughts for it only losing power and that the storm ends up being less brutal than initially suspected.

Just lost power.

Been praying for you Casino! Hope you're doing ok!

Well, turned out to be more of a rain event. Not a great deal of wind. Power still out, sitting in my car using cig lighter charger on BB. I NEED COFFEE!!!

And here's the top story on the CNN home page... (The most trusted name in news)

"Flooding still possible" - Barack Hussein Obama, 2011

Not sure if the headline should have read "Well Duh!" or "We pay this clown to say this crap?"

Great to hear that report NCJim...

We skated the outer edge here in Raleigh but know that you were in the middle if the action.

Many of the Irene stories have been greatly over-hyped.

However, this is seriously the most horrific story that I've seen from the coverage. At first I laughed, but this could be deadly.

I think the conclusion on that is he is standing in raw sewage spray from an overflowed treatment plant. I think he may have seriously jeopardized his health for this shot. Hopefully he has good workman's comp, but I would hate to have to justify to the investigators just why he thought it was a good idea to get into the foam.

So far most of the deaths from Irene appear to be from falling trees. I think maybe to "save every life" they will need to investigate who they are evacuating and from where. It is clear though.... DO NOT STAY IN AN AREA OF YOUR HOUSE WHERE A TREE FALLING WILL HIT IT. I believe at least 7 deaths were from falling trees... so far.

heard one such death occurred when a rancher went to free a horse that was tangled in a fence..a tree branch broke off and hit him in the head...I have no trees close to the house...kinda like it that way..

Power back on at 8:02PM ET. Coffee sitting in front of me at the moment.

Benefit of having no power. Didn't get to see the president make excuses for Irene, and finally finished "Demonic".

How did you survive with no power? You should sue someone!

Good news on all the check in reports. Casino! Hope you got your coffee! :D

Didn't have power but was still able to brew some coffee. Coleman make a drip coffee pot that works on the gas camping stove.

my camping equipment becomes my hurricane supplies

So really, besides air-conditioning and computer/internet connection, what can't be handled by camping supplies for a few days?

That's about it

But damn did I miss that AC... Not sure about other places but here after the storm leaves the weather gets hot and humid

The most I was ever without power was approx 2 wks. Makes one Wounder how people survived in the days on no electricity

Do not misconstrue my flippant comments to mean that I do not care about those in the path or who are suffering from the path of mother nature.

We are Americans. We deal with it. We are the first responders, we protect and do the best we can to protect those we love and those around us.

Panic isn't the first choice we choose, regardless of the media assistance to drive us to insanity.

carry on!

NCJim!

Indeed, thinking of how a hundred or so years ago men and women would work their fields, take care of some chickens or cows, and scrape enough to feed a family and still give their thanks on Sundays.

I would make some flippant comment about the invention of air-conditioning and the south being responsible, but then I spent a week up in Fargo, ND this July, and it was 95, but the humidity was 70% or some awful number. I've never felt so miserable and I've lived in Texas 40 years, been to Arizona, Vegas, Palm Springs in July. No, ND in the summer at 95 is the pits.
