I knew who she was, but wasn't aware that she was married to an astronaut.

Her husband, Mark E. Kelly, who is currently scheduled to fly as the commander Space Shuttle Endeavour on STS-134, the last planned shuttle flight. (There is likely to be a STS-135 but its not official yet.) Kelly's twin brother Scott is also an astronaut and is on the International Space Station right now.

From the President:

SATURDAY, JANUARY 8, 2011

“This morning, in an unspeakable tragedy, a number of Americans were shot in Tuscon, Arizona, at a constituent meeting with Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. And while we are continuing to receive information, we know that some have passed away, and that Representative Giffords is gravely wounded.

We do not yet have all the answers. What we do know is that such a senseless and terrible act of violence has no place in a free society. I ask all Americans to join me and Michelle in keeping Representative Giffords, the victims of this tragedy, and their families in our prayers.”

CGP: The left is already at it

This is obviously the fault of the Tea Party and The (Evil Extremest) Right.

Twitter posters are already blaming the right and Palin in particular. Sickness on the left.

Sheesh. CGP's leftist posters are so unselfaware.

What gets me is that these are the people who scream the loudest about not condemning entire groups based on the actions of a few rush out and condemn an entire group based on a single event—before they have any concept of who, what or why.

AND in addition to that, they say that Palin, Beck, Rush and others instigated the attack with hate speech...with so little self assessment they don't even hear the things the people on their side are saying.

The right has people like this as well. It's embarrassing to anyone who thinks.

Also reporting that 19 people shot, 5 have died. Eye witnesses reporting that at least one child about 10 years old was shot.

Ugghhh. How very, very horrible.

I just sense there has to be more to this. I wonder if the second suspect was older.

Apparently she was one of the few Dems to show up for the constitution reading and was asked by the Republicans to read the first amendment according to the Washington times. She was also a sponsor of the bill to cut Congressional pay. A Blue Dog Dem.

Blue Dog Democrat Source

And supporter of border security, second amendment rights Source

Yep. I saw that. Good work! (Since I can't agree with you there, this is my thumbs up from here. :) )

Edited to add: I am sorry I did not give you credit for that. I should have said "I agree with Valin...."

We are not sure WHY this happened yet-but if it is indeed political-it only enforces that hate threads or hate websites, whether on the left or right-just have NO place.

Fox has Shepherd on (just got home to watch) and some spokesperson (Linda Lopez St. senator) is saying the "hatred" and vitriol because of the Tea Party probably pushed some one over the edge.

Apparently she did die and the doctors have revived her and she is conscious!!!

Responding!

She is responding to commands, according to state senator Linda Lopez (on Fox).

Lopez also blamed the Tea Party.

And....becomes part of the problem, rather than part of the solution. Sigh.

I heard that. Ridiculous. The name of the perp hasn't even been released and already blame is being assigned.

Wouldn't be interesting if this guy was an illegal?

Just saying...given her district and her support for border enforcement.

A federal judge, John Roll, was killed in the shooting.

Well, that changes things. It opened this up to a lot of other motives.
