Here’s what we know so far about the unfolding situation: A gunman entered a Super U supermarket in Trèbes, a small town near Toulouse, at about 11.15 a.m. local time Friday, and shots were heard, AFP reported. Hundreds of police officers have been deployed to the area in response. The gunman claimed allegiance to the Islamic State group, the local prosecutor's office said, and authorities are treating the situation as a suspected terrorist incident. According to French media reports, the gunman is of Moroccan nationality. French newspaper Le Depeche du Midi reported the gunman is about 30, armed with one or more grenades, and said he wanted to “avenge Syria.” Le Figaro reported he was armed with knives, a handgun and several grenades. Valin Posted March 23, 2018 Author Share Posted March 23, 2018 Driver dies in fiery crash at Travis Air Force Base in California Faith Karimi, CNN March 23 2018 An unauthorized vehicle drove onto Travis Air Force Base in Northern California, crashed and erupted into flames, killing the driver, authorities said. There were no other fatalities in the security breach Wednesday night, the base said in a statement. It did not identify the driver, but said the car "gained unauthorized access" through the main gate. "Travis AFB security forces immediately responded," the statement said. "Additionally, the base's explosive ordnance disposal team, office of special investigations and other responders were on scene." It's unclear whether the crash was deliberate. The Air Force and the FBI are investigating. (Snip) _____________________________________________________________ Now we can't say for certain that this is a case of Islamic terror. It may very well be a left handed albino transgender Nigerian prince who was trying to join the Air Force, and simply forgot he/she/ze about the propane tanks in the back seat of the car. The driver committed suicide inside the van, police said. Authorities said a motive remains unclear. German police told NBC News that there is no indication that the incident is a terror attack motivated by Islam and officials added that the investigation is ongoing. Police noted that they were not actively seeking any additional suspects, but they were looking into all eyewitness accounts. The explosions happened in and around a mosque as Muslims were preparing for afternoon prayers. No-one has yet said they were behind the bombings, but the Islamist militant group Boko Haram has launched previous attacks in Mubi. Boko Haram has waged a campaign of violence since 2009 to try to create an Islamic state in northern Nigeria. The violence has killed about 20,000 people and displaced more than two million. State police commissioner Abdullahi Yerima said the first blast took place at the mosque at about 13:00 (12:00 GMT) and a second bomber detonated a device nearby as worshippers fled.
