The Benghazi Select Committee holds an open hearing with former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton Thursday. Clinton has said she is willing to stay as long as there are questions.

The much-anticipated hearing comes as Republicans and Democrats have traded accusations that each side is politicizing Benghazi, the investigation, and Clinton’s appearance. Democrats have argued that the investigation has focused inordinately on Clinton, a dubious claim given the full scope of the committee’s work. But the hearing Thursday will necessarily focus on Clinton since she’s the only witness and it will no doubt have the effect of seeming to confirm the allegations that Republicans too focused on Clinton.

Adding to the challenge for Republicans is the fact that the hearing will almost certainly be covered primarily as a political story, rather than a national security hearing, by a Washington media dubious of the investigation from the outset.

Some of the subject matter is predictable, but we are told the committee’s investigation has produced new information with a direct bearing on Clinton’s earlier claims. Here are some things to look for over the course of a long day of testimony.

Video: CNN’s Chris Cuomo nails the Benghazi committee… while being wrong on everything
posted at 7:21 pm on October 21, 2015 by Jazz Shaw

Tomorrow Hillary Clinton will face off with the House Benghazi committee for what is expected to be a grueling session stretching over most of the day. In preparation for this long anticipated event, CNN’s Chris Cuomo took the opportunity to interview committee member Martha Roby (R – Alabama 2) regarding what we should expect out of this Q&A session. It’s definitely a newsworthy topic which has captured the nation’s attention, but Chris might have wanted to prepare a bit more before the interview. He managed to get nearly everything wrong in his questions and seemed genuinely shocked when he failed to fish out the answers he was looking for.

First let’s go to the video so you can follow along.

Hillary says did not use email much, face to face meetings, briefings, top secret documents by courier. So no way to confirm anything she did.

GOP to ‘torch’ Clinton on Benghazi

Bil Gertz

House Republicans on Thursday plan on using an unexpected approach to questioning former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton at the much-anticipated hearing of the special congressional committee investigating the 2012 Benghazi terror attacks.

Instead of focusing on Mrs. Clinton’s use of a private email server and the security concerns surrounding it, GOP panelists on the House Select Committee on Benghazi will zero in on what they regard as her leadership and policy failures, according to a panel member.

Mrs. Clinton’s private email server is currently the target of an FBI criminal investigation into how highly classified information was improperly transferred to the unsecure computer server.

The former secretary’s role in misleading the public about the attack — that it was a spontaneous Islamist demonstration against an obscure online anti-Muslim video — also will not be a major Republican focus.

Instead, the committee, headed by Rep. Trey Gowdy, South Carolina Republican, will zero in on Mrs. Clinton’s larger failures handling the Libyan civil war that emerged from the pro-democracy Arab Spring in 2011.Scissors-32x32.png
