On Immigration Crisis, Obama, Not Bush, Is To Blame

A 2008 human trafficking law is not at fault for President Obama’s refusal to enforce immigration laws.

JULY 16, 2014 By Ashton Ellis

Facing blame for tens of thousands of unaccompanied minors flooding across the border, the Obama administration is trying to deflect responsibility onto a familiar target: George W. Bush.

Unable to convince Americans that President Obama’s policy of “deferred action”—the 2012 decision to halt deportation proceedings against illegal immigrants who arrived as children—is not incentivizing more illegal behavior, the White House says that a Bush era law is a big part of the problem.

The William Wilberforce Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2008 gives children entering the United States alone access to legal assistance and medical care while authorities determine how best Scissors-32x32.png

That is true. As Hans von Spakovsky wrote back in December, Central American families are hiring traffickers to bring their children into the United States illegally, Scissors-32x32.png

Federal Judge: The Obama Administration Aids and Abets Human Trafficking

By Hans A. von Spakovsky

December 20, 2013 9:08 AM

A federal judge in Texas has issued a searing indictment of the Obama administration’s immigration policy. He accuses the government of “completing the criminal mission” of human traffickers “who are violating the border security of the United States” and assisting a “criminal conspiracy in achieving its illegal goals.” The judge calls the administration’s behavior “dangerous and unconscionable” and says that “DHS should cease telling the citizens of the United States that it is enforcing our border security laws because it is clearly not. Even worse, it is helping those who violate these laws.”

On December 13, federal district court Judge Andrew S. Hanen of Brownsville, Texas, issued his order in U.S. v. Nava-Martinez. It described in shocking detail the malfeasance of the government. Mirtha Veronica Nava-Martinez, an admitted human trafficker and resident alien, pleaded guilty to attempting to smuggle a ten-year-old El Salvadoran girl into the U.S. This was Nava-Martinez’s second felony offense; she was convicted Scissors-32x32.png

Wisconsin’s Johnson says border crisis an ‘abuse of federal power’

MADISON, Wis. — U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., says the federal government isn’t being honest about the wave of unaccompanied child immigrants crossing the Mexican border.

Johnson said he didn’t learn the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services was asking the city of Madison to look for a 90,000-square-foot facility to shelter 150 to 250 undocumented minors until he spoke this week with Wisconsin Reporter, which first reported those details Tuesday.

Johnson also said he was not immediately made aware of the Federal Emergency Management Agency contacting the Milwaukee chapter of Catholic Charities to find three different sites to accommodate up to 300 children who illegally entered the country.

“It just shows further abuse of federal power,” Johnson told Wisconsin Reporter. “And let’s face it, I would say, in many respects, an abuse of presidential authority as well.Scissors-32x32.png

Senator Cornyn Needs to K.I.S.S. This Idea Goodbye

By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | July 16th, 2014 at 04:30 AM

I appreciate Senator John Cornyn working on a bipartisan solution to stem the border crisis, but I do not understand why people in Washington can’t remember to K.I.S.S. their policy proposals — Keep It Simple Stupid.

We cannot just secure our border, we must have a comprehensive plan. We cannot work on our healthcare, we must have comprehensive socialism. Washington, not “we” to be fair, does not do comprehensive anything well, but always wants a comprehensive solution.

Senator Cornyn and Democrats, instead of keeping their solution simple, are just further empowering the President who has created this problem.

Documents Detail Heinous Crimes Committed by Gang Members Being Housed in Nogales Processing Center

Late last week I reported 16 MS-13 gang members exploiting the unaccompanied minor crisis were being housed at a Border Patrol processing center in Nogales, Arizona. The gang members were discovered after graffiti was left on bathroom walls. Further investigation shows gang members from different criminal organizations were also discovered after a fight broke out between two rival MS-13 and 18th Street gang members in a shared holding cell. The gang members admitted in interviews with Border Patrol agents they had engaged in murder and torture in their home countries of Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala before heading north to the United States. It was also confirmed through sources gang members have been using the processing center as a recruitment hub for new members.

Now, Border Patrol documents newly obtained exclusively by Townhall detail the crimes MS-13 and other gang members in the Nogales processing center admit to committing.

In an interview with Border Patrol agents, 15-year-old self admitted MS-13 member with the last name Aguilar said he killed a member of rival gang 18th Street six months ago with a fully automatic Uzi before coming to the United States.Scissors-32x32.png

As we have been informed, when unaccompanied minors are processed at the border, a medical screening is supposed to take place to make sure they carry no communicable diseases which might put other unaccompanied minors at risk or put any workers at the nationwide shelters they are being transported to at risk, either. ABC News has learned via an obtained HHS memo, that the influx of migrant children has so overwhelmed the system, that as a result, not all children are being medically screened before transporting them. This is being referred to as a breakdown of the medical screening process. Is anyone surprised?

Has this concern not been voiced since Day One?

The director of refugee health in the federal Health and Human Services Department “has identified a breakdown of the medical screening processes at the Nogales, Arizona, facility,” according to an internal Department of Defense memo reviewed by ABC News. The “breakdown” a systemic failure of the handoff of these children between CBP and HHS. Scissors-32x32.png

America Is a Microcosm of a World on Fire

By PATRICK J. BUCHANANJuly 18, 2014, 12:49 AM

To observe the decades-long paralysis of America’s political elite in controlling her borders calls to mind the insight of James Burnham in 1964—”Liberalism is the ideology of Western suicide.” What the ex-Trotskyite turned Cold Warrior meant was that by faithfully following the tenets of liberalism, the West would embrace suicidal policies that would bring about the death of her civilization.

The crisis on our Southern border, where the left, and not only the left, is wailing that we cannot turn away desperate people fleeing wicked regimes and remain true to our liberal values, is a case in point. To assert that we cannot take all these people in, that we must send them back and seal out border for our survival, is to be called a variety of names—racist, xenophobe, nativist—all of which translate into “illiberal.” But as we continue our descent to Third World status, perhaps we should explore more deeply the “diversity” that has of late come to be regarded as America’s most treasured attribute. This Is Not The First Border Crisis. No New Laws Needed—Reagan Administration Did Fine in 1988

By Federale on July 17, 2014

Republicans are divided on a legislative response to the Obama Regime’s border dissolution, with real fears that any legislation may become a Trojan Horse for the Establishment’s Amnesty/ Immigration Surge obsession.

But new laws are not needed to stop the latest wave of illegal immigration—because the law enforcement solution is already available. Past influxes were easily handled by the existing system as recently as the 1980s and 1990s, and there are even more tools available today. What is needed is enforcement of existing statutes—not the sinister farce of phony legislation.

Incredibly, the outlet publicizing the real answer to the latest crisis is ILW.com, normally the online voice for the Open Borders immigration lawyers VDARE.com calls the Treason Bar. In a recent article, .Scissors-32x32.png

RINO Cornyn Proposes Legislating The Obama Regime Immigration Court Amnesty

John Cornyn, RINO, Texas, has proposed the cutely named HUMANE Act to solve the problem of the mass influx of juvenile illegal aliens, most, though not all, from Central America. As usual for RINOs, the legislation does not solve the problem of juvenile illegal aliens, but worsens the problem by opening up new avenues for juvenile illegal aliens previously ordered deported, but who failed to either appear for their hearings or have absconded after being ordered deported to get their deportation order expunged and then given a new deportation hearing.

First, the lies from Cornyn:

US Becoming The Brazil of North America—When Did We Vote For That?

In 1960, we were not nearly so diverse. Nine in 10 Americans professed a Christian faith. Nine in 10 Americans traced their ancestry back to Europe. E Pluribus Unum. We were one nation and one people.

Since then, we have become the Brazil of North America, a multiracial, multilingual, multiethnic, multicultural “universal nation” unlike any that has existed in the history of the West.

And if we look abroad at those Western nations traveling along this perilous path with us, we can see clearly now our future.

Strange and powerful cop-fact, from a past-master of cop-fiction: the story of ten San Diego police officers assigned to patrol, on foot, at night, the cactus-filled, snake-infested canyons along the Mexican border. Not, however, to intercept aliens illegally entering the country--there were far too many--but to arrest the violent, sadistic bandits who preyed on the defenseless aliens in the canyons, The ten were the Border Alien Robbery Force (with the inevitable acronym), almost all Mexican-Americans, led by the super-macho Sergeant Manny Lopez ("I was bored. Real bored. . . . That's why I joined [the] task force")--who seemed to know no fear and whose men, as time went on, became more and more convinced he was both invulnerable and crazy. ("This bastard would draw on The Holy Ghost!") Night after night, dressed like winos, crawling around in the brush, grappling with "guys with knives and icepicks. . . guys who smelled like garbage," it began to get to the men in the BARF squad. "We were afraid to use our guns at first," said one. "We were still normal policemen." They didn't stay normal long. For one thing, the media found them: "Border shooting! Film at eleven!" Celebrity turned them into The Last of the Gunslingers. ("Think of it: ten little hardball lawmen, shooting down Mexican bandits. . . out there in the cactus and rocks and tarantulas. . . . Obama aides were warned of brewing border crisis
David Nakamura, Jerry Markon and Manuel Roig-Franzia
July 19 2014

Nearly a year before President Obama declared a humanitarian crisis on the border, a team of experts arrived at the Fort Brown patrol station in Brownsville, Tex., and discovered a makeshift transportation depot for a deluge of foreign children.

Thirty Border Patrol agents were assigned in August 2013 to drive the children to off-site showers, wash their clothes and make them sandwiches. As soon as those children were placed in temporary shelters, more arrived. An average of 66 were apprehended each day on the border and more than 24,000 cycled through Texas patrol stations in 2013. In a 41-page report to the Department of Homeland Security, the team from the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) raised alarms about the federal government’s capacity to manage a situation that was expected to grow worse.

The researchers’ observations were among the warning signs conveyed to the Obama administration over the past two years as a surge of Central American minors has crossed into south Texas illegally. More than 57,000 have entered the United States this year, swamping federal resources and catching the government unprepared.

Do We Want Mexifornia?

Victor Davis Hanson

Thousands arrive illegally from Mexico into California each year—and the state is now home to fully 40 percent of America’s immigrants, legal and illegal. They come in such numbers because a tacit alliance of Right and Left has created an open-borders policy, aimed at keeping wage labor cheap and social problems ever fresh, so that the ministrations of Chicano studies professors, La Raza activists, and all the other self-appointed defenders of group causes will never be unneeded. The tragedy is that though illegal aliens come here hoping to succeed, most get no preparation for California’s competitive culture. Instead, their activist shepherds herd them into ethnic enclaves, where inexorably they congeal into an underclass. The concept of multiculturalism is the force-multiplier that produces this result: it transforms a stubborn problem of assimilation into a social calamity.

Which Immigration Impasse?

Baloney from billionaires

13 July 2014

Thursday’s New York Times op-ed by Sheldon Adelson, Warren Buffett, and Bill Gates is about as misleading as it is possible to be without actually telling a lie. “Break the Immigration Impasse,” they demand. Fine: but the impasse has nothing to do with the more liberal admission of the immigrants they cite—those with advanced degrees or investment capital. Who would not gladly give these immigrants green cards and a path to citizenship, as Canada or Australia does? Who does not think it is irrational to admit young Chinese nationals as grad students to Caltech or MIT, only to send them home to hack U.S. computers for the People’s Liberation Army? Either don’t let them in in the first place, or else make them promise to stay here and give them green cards to allow them to do so. Scissors-32x32.png

The crisis on the border has stretched on for weeks now and shows no sign of stopping. Our representatives intend to use this issue as a political football in the upcoming elections and as usual, in their strategy of posturing and deflecting blame which only seems to be focused on protecting their power, it is the American people who will suffer the consequences of their inaction.
