Harry Reid’s border problem

Immigration crisis requires action from reluctant Senate leader

By John E. Sununu| GLOBE COLUMNIST JULY 21, 2014

HARRY REID has a border problem. More accurately, America has a border problem that Reid, as Senate majority leader, will need to help solve in the next three weeks. The Nevada senator’s difficulties stem from his dislike of the bipartisan solution recently offered, disagreement with the approach suggested by President Obama, and disdain for anything passed by the House of Representatives. Other than that, Reid should find the sweltering run-up to the August recess to be great fun.

It’s difficult to overstate the challenges created by the massive influx of asylum seekers — mostly women and unaccompanied children — currently flowing through our southern border Scissors-32x32.png

Rick Perry reportedly sending 1000 National Guard troops to border

By Thomas Lifson

Looking more presidential than Barack Obama, Texas Governor Rick Perry is reported to be announcing the dispatch of a thousand Texas National Guard troops to the southern border in response to the crisis there. Ads President Obama enjoyed a round of golf yesterday, Governor Perry was addressing the urgent needs of not just Texas, but the United States.

Gov. Perry Deploys Texas National Guard Troops to Border

Monday, July 21, 2014

Gov. Rick Perry today directed Texas Adjutant General John Nichols to immediately begin preparations for the deployment of up to 1,000 National Guard troops to the border. These troops will support the Texas Department of Public Safety's (DPS) ongoing law enforcement surge, Operation Strong Safety, which is focused on combatting criminal activity in the region resulting from the federal government's failure to adequately secure the border.

Since 2008, more than 203,000 criminal aliens have been booked into Texas county jails. Over the course of their criminal careers, these individuals have committed more than 640,000 crimes in the state of Texas alone, including more than 3,000 homicides and nearly 8,000 sexual assaults.

"There can be no national security without border security, and Texans have paid too high a price for the federal government's failure to secure our border," Gov. Perry said. "The action I am ordering today will tackle this crisis head-on by multiplying our efforts to combat the cartel activity, human traffickers and individual criminals who threaten the safety of people across Texas and America." Obama Wants $4.3 Billion to Solve Border Crisis. But He Plans to Spend Only $25 Million This Year

The Congressional Budget Office has released its score on how President Barack Obama’s$4.3 billion emergency request on immigration will be spent. The big news? The CBO score confirms that the president’s $4.3 billion emergency request is not warranted. CBO reports that only $25 million of the president’s request would be spent in fiscal year 2014 and the remaining funds would not be spent until the next fiscal year or in the out-years.

Congress is currently debating how to allocate the nearly half-trillion dollars ($492.4 billion) in non-defense discretionary spending that lawmakers authorized in the Ryan–Murray budget deal for fiscal year (FY) 2015. If Congress chose to support the Obama Administration’s approach to dealing with the surge in unaccompanied minors, there is no reason why Congress could not do so within the current Budget Control Act (BCA)cap. Congress has already lifted the cap by $9.2 billion from its original FY 2015 level established by the BCA and could allocate some of the spending increase toward the administration’s border efforts.

Congress should use the appropriations process to properly prioritize spending needs, including for border security. Obama is instead asking Congress to circumvent its already inflated spending cap by exploiting the “emergency” loophole. But this is an “emergency” that White House officials reportedly knew about for years now, but decided to ignore.Scissors-32x32.png

Orchestrated Invasion – The Eradication Of America’s Borders

By: Terresa Monroe-Hamilton Posted on July 20, 2014 by TMH

ramborder3.gifNoisy Room.

If you had any doubts whatsoever that the whole border crisis was planned, this should fix that. Obama and Bidenwill meet with Central American leaders next week at the White House to discuss promoting legal, orderly migration. In essence, they will discuss the eradication of our borders, the end of American sovereignty and the furtherance of a collaborative, communist plan to redistribute wealth, people, assets and to create, in the end, a North American Union.

America, you have been betrayed by your leaders and your country is in the final stages of a destructive conspiracy that benefits a few elitist Marxists and destroys your liberty forever. How’s that hope and change working for you now? Scissors-32x32.png

BOEHNER BORDER GROUP OFFERS PLAN

A working group of lawmakers appointed by Speaker John Boehner released a set of recommendations to the House GOP conference Wednesday, including $1.5 in new spending and proposals to send the National Guard to the border and require the Obama administration to form a border security plan as tens of thousands of illegal alien children stream across the border.

The proposal faces an uncertain future, with congressional Democrats digging in with opposition to amending a 2008 human trafficking law that has been cited as an obstacle to deporting the children while the recommendations produced pockets of opposition on the right.

Several lawmakers said the plan was well-received by most Republicans in a closed-door meeting where Rep. Kay Granger (R-TX), the leader of the working group, outlined policy recommendations in the plan.

“I think it was received pretty well,” said Rep. John Carter (R-TX), a member of the working group.

“It looks like a common sense approach, but I want to read the details,” said House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan, a key player on immigration issues.Scissors-32x32.png

Perry to Castro: You misunderstood Nat’l Guard deployment

Posted by Brian M. RosenthalWednesday, July 23 at 2:18pm

AUSTIN – In a sharply-worded letter, Gov. Rick Perry on Wednesday accused U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro of “misunderstanding” his decision to deploy the Texas National Guard to the southern border.

“I recently read your remarks in the press regarding my decision to send up to 1,000 members of the Texas National Guard to enhance border security efforts currently underway along the Texas-Mexico border,” Perry wrote in a letter obtained by the Houston Chronicle. “Your comments indicated a basic misunderstanding about the very positive role the Guard will play in tackling the border security crisis.”Scissors-32x32.png

His letter was apparently in response to the San Antonio congressman’s statement that “militarizing our border is the wrong response to the arrival of children.”

“We should be sending the Red Cross to the border, not the National Guard,” said Castro, a sentiment shared by many Democrats and some border sheriffs.Scissors-32x32.png

Exclusive: Obama sends team to Texas to assess need for National Guard deployment

BY JEFF MASON

SAN FRANCISCO Wed Jul 23, 2014 5:17pm EDT

(Reuters) - President Barack Obama has sent a team to Texas to assess whether a U.S. National Guard deployment would help to handle an immigration crisis at the Mexican border, White House officials told Reuters on Wednesday, having so far resisted Republican calls for such a move.

The team, made up of officials from the Department of Defense and the Department of Homeland Security, departed on Tuesday and will be on the ground through Thursday.

The White House had previously resisted calls from Republicans to deploy the National Guard to fight the onslaught of migrants from Central America because most of the unaccompanied minors and others making the crossing were turning themselves in voluntarily

House moves to halt illegal immigration by deploying U.S. forces to Central America

By S.A. Miller The Washington Times Wednesday, July 23, 2014

A House Republican task force Wednesday unveiled a $1.5 billion plan to ease the border crisis, including deploying the National Guard to help achieve “operational control” of the border and launching law enforcement operations in Central America and Mexico to stop illegal immigrants before they reach the U.S.

Under the plan, the U.S. steps to accelerate immigration hearings for the unaccompanied alien children flooding across the Southern border, providing additional judges to hear requests for asylum. Tougher penalties on human traffickers, or coyotes, who smuggle the children to the United Sates would be imposed to discourage more mass illegal migration.Scissors-32x32.png

Sen. Ted Cruz Warns House of Senate Trojan Horse on Immigration

Mr. Speaker, Beware!

By: checkmate2012 (Diary) | July 24th, 2014 at 08:01 PM

Yesterday, in a meeting with 20 House conservatives that make up the Conservative Opportunity Society, Sen. Cruz warned the House not to pass any immigration bill to fix the crisis at the border. He advised that the Senate would gut any House bill on fixing immigration and insert parts of S. 744, the loathed bipartisan Gang of Eight Immigration Bill from 2013.

And here I thought I was the only one being paranoid about it when I said this a week ago:

Amnesty and Rights
Posted on 25 July 2014 by eehines

Attorney General Eric Holder now is claiming amnesty to be both a civil and a human right. In his rambling way, he makes says this [emphasis in the cite]:

Creating a pathway to earned citizenship for the 11 million unauthorized immigrants in this country is essential. The way we treat our friends and neighbors who are undocumented—by creating a mechanism for them to earn citizenship and move out of the shadows—transcends the issue of immigration status. This is a matter of civil and human rights.

pollyannaish

I am so angry about this I can barely speak without spitting. Obama's team is unilaterally supporting an invasion of the Inited states which puts his own citizens at risk--health, financial, political and the impact on the lower and middle class is horrific. And this from the great screaming about "a living wage?" Are his remaining blithering idiots?! Wow. The unilateral action could set us up eventually for war on our own soil in our not so distant future.

House Working Group Releases Border Plan

Written by Warren Mass

U.S. Representative Kay Granger (shown, R-Texas), chairwoman of the House Working Group on the border crisis, issued a statement on July 23 announcing the group’s recommendations to solve the crisis.

Granger, as the spokesperson for the group, said she had presented the group's proposals to the House GOP Conference and that they provide “common-sense, compassionate, but tough solutions.”

Granger’s statement noted that the group met personally with the presidents of Honduras and Guatemala, during which both stated that they wanted their children returned home. Granger said she and her colleagues looked forward to working with the Central American countries as they prepare to receive their children.

Has Obama Trapped Himself?

Mickey Kaus 3:05 AM 07/23/2014

The ‘Down Payment’ Ploy, Coming Right Up: Immigration “comprehensivists” claim Obama’s promised executive actions to protect illegal immigrants constitute a kind of doomsday weapon directed at the Republican party. If Obama acts boldly to offer de facto legalization to, say, “up to half of the undocumented population” of 11 million illegals living here, it will cement an unshakeable bond between Latino voters and their political champion — or so the argument goes. The more Republicans complain and stamp their feet the more they’ll “lastingly” alienate this growing ethnic bloc, predicts Ron Brownstein. **

But hasn’t Obama more obviously put himself in a bind? Remember that a) the political battlegrounds in 2014, with one or two exceptions (Colorado) are not places with a heavy Latino vote, but rather places (Arkansas, Kentucky, North Carolina) with a heavy presence of voters (e.g. whites, but maybe also blacks) who might resent targeted pandering to “ascendant” groups they can never join, and B) sweeping executive action would probably — though not definitely*** — kill any chance of getting the Republican House to go along with “comprehensive” legalization legislation next year Scissors-32x32.png

WSJ: “What Really Drove the Children North”

By Ryan McMaken

Monday, July 28th, 2014

On July 14, Mark Thornton’s Mises Daily article explored how Drug War violence in Central America was a major factor in creating the child refugee crisis on the southern US border. On July 20, The Wall Street Journal published “What Really Drove the Children North” which contended that “Our appetite for drugs caused the violence that made life unbearable in much of Central America.”

Those skeptical of this thesis claimed that the theory does not explain why the refugee crisis is a new issue. In typical nationalistic fashion, many right-wing commentators assumed that Central America has always been pretty much the same, and that it’s all their fault anyway. The WSJ article addresses such claims directly:

[Marine Corps. General John Kelly] has spent time studying the issue and is speaking up. Conservatives may not like his conclusions, Scissors-32x32.png

Why We Must Stop Obama’s Amnesty

By PATRICK J. BUCHANANAugust 1, 2014, 9:21 AM

According to Rep. Luis Gutierrez, Obama intends “to act broadly and generously” on behalf of the “millions and millions” of illegal immigrants in the United States today. Gutierrez, who meets often with the president, is implying that Obama, before Labor Day and by executive order, will grant de facto amnesty to five million illegal immigrants. They will be granted work permits and permission to stay. With his pen and his phone, Obama will do what Congress has refused to do.

There is a precedent. Obama has already issued one executive order deferring the deportation of “dreamers,” children brought into the United States illegally by their parents before 2007.

Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions is on to what is afoot. “We must prevent the president’s massive amnesty from going forward,” he says, and urges legislation to block an executive amnesty. Scissors-32x32.png

Ready to rumble: Activists to raid congressional town hall meetings to fight immigration

Even if lightning strikes Friday and Congress OK's an immigration bill, activists angered with undocumented minors swarming over the U.S.-Mexico border plan to invade town hall meetings House members are planning during the five-week congressional recess.

The immigration reduction group NumbersUSA is one of those already drawing up protest plans. They distributed details to their two million members on the lawmakers already planning to host public meetings in their district.

According to the group, 99 Republicans have scheduled town halls. Just 41 Democrats have done the same.

No immigration bill is expected to pass both houses and be signed by the president, according to several sources.

“No matter what happens today, there are grave concerns that voters need to confront their representatives about this summer,” NumbersUSA said in a statement provided to Secrets.Scissors-32x32.png

Feds have court receipts for only 4 in 10 illegal alien children

By Rick Moran

NRO has discovered that the Department of Justice has court receipts for only 4 in 10 illegal alien children who have been apprehended in the last two years The receipts - Notices to Appear - are the way that DoJ keeps track of the illegals that have been released by HHS.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection data show more than 85,000 total apprehensions of unaccompanied alien children during fiscal year 2013 and fiscal year 2014 through June.

Information from the same time period provided to National Review Online by the DOJ’s Executive Office for Immigration Review shows 41,592 total receipts marked as juvenile in immigration courts. The Federal Government Won’t Seal Our Southern Border, So It’s Up To Us

Posted on August 9, 2014 by Richard Anthony

us-mexico-border.jpgRight this very minute, next to the town of Killeen, Texas sits Fort Hood. There are two full army divisions there: The 2nd Armored Division and the 1st Cavalry Division (my old unit). Given the circumstances, why haven’t these two divisions been assigned to and deployed to our southern border?

The other day, an off duty border agent was murdered right in front of his wife and children by two illegal alien criminals, both of whom were deported several times before, but always found themselves back in the US. Because of Barack Hussein Obama’s direct policies, a father, husband and son was brutally ripped away from his family and it didn’t have to happen. Obama, in my opinion, is directly responsible and that young man’s blood is on his hands Scissors-32x32.png

Children in the Desert

Those of us who follow Jesus' teachings and the call in every major faith tradition to care for children must act on our faith. We must see these thousands of children in need of help right now not as a political dilemma but as an urgent humanitarian crisis. We must help ensure sufficient resources are provided so these vulnerable children will be treated humanely, find safe families and warm food to eat, and receive the counsel and due process hearings guaranteed them in law before any are returned to their dangerous homelands and possible deaths. It is deplorable that Members of Congress left town for their own summer vacations with the humanitarian crisis continuing and without providing the resources the government needs to ensure safety and justice for these innocent children.Scissors-32x32.png

Three weeks ago we shared the fact that well over 40,000 reported UAC’s were missing (7) from this years record keeping. The facts catching up with the ruse.

Well, the truth was/is they’re not technically missing because they never existed in the first place. DHS, which compiles the reports coming from the Border Patrol, and then gives the statistical summaries of the reports, had artifically inflated the apprehension numbers to support the White House narrative.

However, DHS, or more accurately Jeh Johnson, could not divert the end user of the apprehension reports, The Executive Office of Immigration Reform, the entity who controls the court dockets, from recording the missing reports.

Comparative FOIA’s into the recording agency, The Border Patrol, and the end user, The EOIR, showed the statistical ruse.

The reports were missing because they were never written; they were never written because the UAC’s were not actually real.

Now today the reports surface the White House “Administration” has quietly abandoned the search for the crisis housing. The removal of the crisis housing search is a consequence of the reality the UAC’s do not exist:

WASHINGTON DC - The Obama administration has quietly abandoned its aggressive months-long search for emergency shelters across the nation as the number of children illegally crossing the southern border alone continues to drop.

At the same time, three facilities at military bases in Texas, California and Oklahoma set up as shelters are no longer housing children from Central America.

An official with the Department of Health and Human Services, which led the search for shelters, said there’s been a decrease in the number of children apprehended at the border and an increase in the number of children sent to live with families or friends.
