How to rationally discuss the ‘shutdown’ and budget

Jeff (ILoveCapitalism)

October 12, 2013.

No discussion is grownup, if the participants don’t know/acknowledge certain facts which President Obama, the Democrats and their media try to have people forget:

1. The government is supposed to spend by a budget.

2. Between April 29, 2009 and March 23, 2013, Harry Reid’s Democrats didn’t even bother to pass a budget. Nearly four years!

3. Under the U.S. Constitution, the budget is supposed to originate in Congress and particularly the House of Representatives. Which means,

What appeared to be perhaps Congress' best plan to solve its double-whammy fiscal problem fizzled Saturday when Democrats rejected a proposal by Maine Republican Sen. Susan Collins that had bipartisan support.

OK if Dems won't take a plan from that "staunch conservative" Republican Collins there is no hope.

As I'm sure you know the Dems wanted this shut down. They think it will put the House back in their hands. So who is playing politics?

I also have a feeling Cruz is looking ahead to 2016, and hopes this helps him get the nominations.

Frankly 95% of the Senators and Congress Critters want the shut down (at least so far). It puts them in focus and with the help of the media makes them seem key to this country's ability to move forward.

Real Clear Video: Mark Levin: NBC/WSJ Poll Showing Shutdown Has Hurt Republicans Is A "Fraud"

Bryan Preston

The wording of the question is broad enough to sweep in spouses of government workers and other situations in which the respondent themselves may not work for the government in some way, but someone closely related to them does. Oversampling government workers may not always lead to a skewed result government workers include the bureaucrats we all have in mind here, but also the wife of the local sheriff whos as conservative as can be. Nevertheless, we do have government workers heavily sampled, by more than twice the actual percentage of Americans who work for the government. Then lets factor in the polls partisan sample, which was 43-32 Democrat, the percent that admits voting for Obama, which was 44 versus just 35 for Romney, and this looks like a left-heavy sample. Im not screaming UNSKEWED POLLS!!!1!!!1! here, but, its questionable. Then, factor in NBCs role. That network is not to be trusted.

Well said, @Valin!

My thoughtss exactly.

I know Sweet @pollyannaish+family are hurting, but since Obama has been in office, I have lost around 90% of my business. Banks won't loan, people are scared, economy sucks & hardwood floors are an item for "disposable income."

I'm just one small business, of many, that is about to, or has...."gone under."

My hurt began in 2008....and I can't see an end, even if we can turn things around.

More importantly.....this is a crossroads for having a Constitution, with separation of powers.....or a "living document" in a Democratic Socialist Monarchy.

I will gladly suffer, if my kids & grandkids.....and theirs.....and on & on.....don't have to. I remember what an American Republic is....and what it is not, They should have the same thing , as I did....and not a begging bowl & a number.

2. What we are seeing is just more more battle in an ongoing war. One way of putting it is a small question...Who is in charge, Washington or The States.

3. This shutdown battle is a good thing, and needs to happen. It's messy, really confusing, but is a good thing.

As I have quoted many times before "Trends That Cannot Continue....Won't." We are approaching that point and the ACA and the Shutdown in response to it are just part of the larger battles to come.

The Vets march on Washington

Jazz Shaw

2:01 pm on October 13, 2013

If you were relying on the usual cable news channels, you probably wouldnt even know this was happening today, but the much anticipated veterans march on DC has been well under way for a while now. At least the local news is covering it.

Protestors of the government shutdown began at the World War II Memorial early Saturday morning and ended at the White House gates and fence Saturday afternoon.

The group was upset with the closure of memorials in Washington due to the shutdown stalemate. The original WWII protest was organized by the Million Vet March group, but took on a more political tone.

According to NBC News, the president was in the White House at the time the protesters arrived at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Yea....Jesus would definitely want a large & unwieldy government of elite shysters to remove our money at the point of a gun, and redistribute that money willy-nilly to people that only want to sit on their butts & be fed, clothed & pampered by anyone that can be made to do it. Because Man & not God is in charge.

As opposed to making money from our hard labor....and willingly + personally giving with a charitable heart....and following Jesus, Son of the Ever-living One God's commandment to feed & clothe our brothers & sisters.

What was I thinking?

House may vote on something tonite.

Some press is starting to point out the "debt ceiling" date of Thur. is made up and may not be until end of the month... Basically it is not a set date, just an estimate when there is not enough cash on hand to pay bills.

House Republicans Voted To Reopen Government – 11 Times

By: Matt Vespa (Diary) | October 15th, 2013 at 05:30 PM

As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, the Republicans DID compromise to avoid a shutdown. They were going to keep the government open, but asked that Obamacare be delayed. Yes, even Planned Parenthood would get their annual funding from the government. Senate Democrats under Harry Reid said no. Here are the eleven times the House GOP voted to reopen the government – but were blocked by Senate Democrats and the president. Yet, it’s conservatives who are the ones being obstructionist.

1. Roll Call 478 on H.J. Res. 59 (September 20, 2013)

Earlier in September, House Republicans voted to fund the government at current spending levels while strengthening our economy and protecting millions of American families by defunding ObamaCare.

Senate Democrats killed the bill, and President Obama threatened to veto it.

2. Roll Call 497/498 on H.J. Res 59 (September 28, 2013)

With hours left until the government ran out of funding, House Republicans voted to keep the government open at current spending levels while protecting our economy by delayingthe glitch-filled ObamaCare for one year and repealing the tax on medical devices like pacemakers and children’s hearing aides.

Senate Democrats killed the bill, and President Obama threatened to veto it, causing the government shutdown.

3. Roll Call 504 on H.J. Res 59 (September 30, 2013)On September 30, the House GOP again voted to fund the government at current spending levels, while ensuring that Congress doesn’t receive special treatment under ObamaCare, and delaying ObamaCare’s individual mandate.

Again, Senate Democrats killed the measure in the Senate, and President Obama threatened to veto.

4. Roll Call 505 on H.J. Res 59 (September 30, 2013) Scissors-32x32.png

Less than Two Dozen Show for OFA Protest on Capitol Steps

October 15, 2013

Less than two dozen people have shown up for a government shutdown protest Tuesday sponsored by President Obamas dark money group Organizing for Action, according to Politicos Reid Epstein.

The protest, held on the Capitol steps, is part of the organizations Budget shutdown Day of Action. According to Epstein, the event has been sparsely attended, with just 23 attendees. The Washington Examiners Charlie Spiering reported 16 attendees a half-hour into the event.

Obamacare will double my monthly premium (according to Kaiser)

Tirge Caps

"My wife and I just got our updates from Kaiser telling us what our 2014 rates will be. Her monthly has been $168 this year, mine $150. We have a high deductible. We are generally healthy people who dont go to the doctor often. I barely ever go. The insurance is in case of a major catastrophe.

Well, now, because of Obamacare, my wifes rate is gong to $302 per month and mine is jumping to $284.

I am canceling insurance for us and I am not paying any f****** penalty. What the hell kind of reform is this?"

Gosh! If only someone had said something about this!

This is gonna leave a mark!

Editorial: Why Obamacare is a mess

The administration has to 'fess up and promote changes

If you've tried to sign up online for health coverage under the problem-plagued Obamacare exchange, our sympathies. Many people have tried to create accounts and shop for insurance under the new law. Few have succeeded. Those that have enrolled have found that the system is prone to mistakes. Some applications have been sent to the wrong insurance company.

Wait. It gets worse. Those who have managed to browse the marketplace have often been hit by sticker shock. Take Adam Weldzius, a nurse practitioner and single father from Carpentersville. He sought the same level of coverage on the exchange as he and his 7-year-old daughter have now, with the same insurer and the same network of doctors and hospitals. At best, Weldzius found, his monthly premium of $233 would more than double. If he chose a plan priced at the same level, the annual deductible would be $12,700, more than three times his current $3,500 deductible.

(Snip)

There are more problems. People who have individual insurance coverage are finding that Obama's oft-repeated promise "if you like your health care plan, you can keep your health care plan" is just not true. They are being told by insurers that their existing plans expire on Dec. 31 and they must choose new coverage. They're learning that insurers managed to offer lower-cost plans by narrowing the networks of hospitals and doctors that are available or by upping the out-of-pocket expenses. Unless people are careful in selecting coverage, they may be surprised to find they have to pay much more for out-of-network care to go to their doctors or get treated at the best hospitals. Federal officials argue that they'll work out the kinks in the system in plenty of time for people to sign up by Dec. 15 for coverage that begins Jan. 1. Yes, the techies might be able to work out the computer network problems by then. But that's not a given.

The deeper problems of cost and coverage in Obamacare are going to require an admission by the administration that this government management of the health care market is extraordinarily complicated and will be very costly for many people. The law has to change.

GOP on Twitter

October 16, 2013

If you follow the GOP mouthpieces on Twitter, the running meme has been that conservatives — because of their stubborn, unrealistic expectations — harmed the Party, who without them may have been able to win certain concessions from Obama, who as we all know is a post-partisan, pragmatic fellow eager to compromise, just not when he’s being held hostage by wacko bird demands that, say, Congress have to live under its own law, and that UNIVERSAL waivers delay implementation of ObamaCare, whose roll-out has been a disaster of epic proportions.

I’m posting an open question to these types — who continue to tell us it in unwise to pick fights we “cant win” (even with 68% of the American public against ObamaCare, and the embarrassing failure of its web portals) — and it it this: if we only fight battles we know we can win, how is that a “fight” at all? It’s a WWE match. Entertainment. Theater. Fixed and preordained.

Further, I posed this question to the same types on Twitter: if the Congress agrees to Obama’s demands, caving to his threat to default (and to do so, he would have to once again defy the Constitution, particularly the 14th Amendment, just as the Treasury would have to defy its own incipient act), that means that all the Executive has to do, going forward, is threaten default should he be denied funding increases — without Congressional oversight (he can spend on bureaucracies, whose regulations have the force of law) to check him — giving the Executive de facto control over the power of the purse. Scissors-32x32.png

This government does not represent we, the people. It represents DC and all its ancillary insiders and parasites. Scissors-32x32.pnghttp://proteinwisdom.com/?p=51556
