Greenbay Press Gazzett:

Updated election returns posted on a Northeastern Wisconsin county’s website would flip the winner of the Wisconsin Supreme Court race.

The Associated Press verified unofficial Winnebago County election returns on Wednesday morning but the county updated its numbers at 2:27 that afternoon to show incumbent Justice David Prosser with 710 more votes and assistant attorney general JoAnne Kloppenburg with 466 more.

The finding comes as canvassers in all 72 counties begins the process of certifying the results of the race.

But if the numbers hold up, Prosser would be ahead of Kloppenburg by 40 votes.

------
Looks like two sides know how to play in Wisconsin....

Keeping fingers crossed.

An editor at the AP said the news service became aware of the discrepancy in the past hour. The AP last checked figures with Winnebago County at 10:14 a.m. Wednesday, according to the AP. The county adjusted its figures at 2:27 p.m.

So right now this is all based on the AP's counting of the numbers Yesterday?

Another county has evidently reported different (higher results) for Prosser since the AP "final" count. But it was a comment to an article, not sourced.

Well, this is making this lousy day feel better. Thanks Clear.

Made me look at news for the first time in weeks. Fingers crossed that Prosser wins this.

David Prosser picked up 200 votes in New Berlin after a clerical error was discovered, according to Pat Karcher, a member of the board of canvassers in Waukesha County. Karcher spoke during a break in the canvassers meeting. Check back to JSOnline.com for updates.

That would put him up 240, but another county is evidently already -112. Who knows where it will end up before the recount even starts.

This site seems to be tracking all the changes, although they don't have the New Berlin change....

In reading this link I noticed that Prosser has hired attorneys for the recount. Two are local and one is Ben Ginsberg out of Washington, one of the attorneys in The GWB recount!

BREAKING: Computer Error Could Give Prosser 7,381 More Votes, Victory

April 7, 2011 5:29 P.M.

By Christian Schneider

After Tuesday night’s Wisconsin Supreme Court election, a computer error in heavily Republican Waukesha County failed to send election results for the entire City of Brookfield to the Associated Press. The error, revealed today, would give incumbent Supreme Court Justice David Prosser a net 7,381 votes against his challenger, attorney Joanne Kloppenburg. On Wednesday, Kloppenburg declared victory after the AP reported she finished the election with a 204-vote lead, out of nearly 1.5 million votes cast.

On election night, AP results showed a turnout of 110,000 voters in Waukesha County — well short of the 180,000 voters that turned out last November, and 42 percent of the county’s total turnout. By comparison, nearly 90 percent of Dane County voters who cast a ballot in November turned out to vote for Kloppenburg.snip

Weekly Standard: Prosser Now Up 7,000+ Votes After Error Is Corrected

STEPHEN F. HAYES

5:57 PM, Apr 7, 2011

Supreme Court justice David Prosser has picked up more than 7,381 votes in Waukesha County, a conservative county outside of Milwaukee, as part of the statewide canvass following the election for Supreme Court on Tuesday. The total gives Prosser a comfortable lead as the canvass continues Friday.

The error came when Waukesha County clerk Kathy Nickolaus failed to save some 14,000 votes that came from wards in Brookfield before passing the vote total along to the Associated Press. County officials discovered the mistake Wednesday and shared the information with state election officials on Thursday. Prosser won Waukesha County with more than 70 percent of the vote there.

If this lead holds up this lead is enough not to have a State paid recount. If she wants a recount she will have to pay for it!

I would hazard a guess that someone on the left will pay for it.

Fox News:

A significant change Thursday in the vote count in a Wisconsin Supreme Court election raised the incumbent into the lead, in a race that some see as a referendum on the state's Republican governor.

Conservative Justice David Prosser had faced a surprisingly strong challenge from JoAnne Kloppenburg, a little-known assistant state attorney general who drew last-minute support from opponents of Gov. Scott Walker's push to limit union power as part of a budget-balancing plan.

The fate of a controversial labor law passed by Republicans and signed by Walker could end up before the state Supreme Court, where Prosser or Kloppenberg could tip the balance.

Prosser, 68, was down by a mere 204 votes in the initial statewide vote count from Tuesday's election, and a recount was expected. But on Thursday, Waukesha County Clerk Kathy Nickolaus said not all of her county's votes had been reported on Tuesday due to "human error." The revised numbers gave Prosser a boost of more than 7,000 votes.

Prosser's new 7,500 vote-lead, though unofficial, would be enough to keep him in his office if other vote totals hold up at the end of canvassing in all of Wisconsin's 72 counties.

For Kloppenburg and her supporters:

7000 votes!!! They are going to scream bloody murder. But it also points out the candidates should not be relying on the AP's collection of votes in such a close race.

I would hazard a guess that someone on the left will pay for it.

The cost to the candidate are insignificant for up to 2% of the vote. $5 per ward. Above 2% (about 30K votes) then it is full cost. Or so I read.

At the news conference with Nickolaus, Ramona Kitzinger, the Democrat on the Waukesha County Board of Canvassers, said: "We went over everything and made sure all the numbers jibed up and they did. Those numbers jibed up and we're satisfied they're correct."

As a Democrat, she said, "I'm not going to stand here and tell you something that's not true."

Justice David Prosser appeared on Fox News Thursday night and told host Greta Van Sustern, "I'm not conceding, and I'm not congratulating. And I'm not claiming victory."

"We're simply waiting out the process," Prosser added.

Prosser gained 7,582 votes over challenger JoAnne Kloppenberg after a canvass of votes in Waukesha County.

A purely human area because some woman forgot to hit "save" in a pro Prosser County.

Afraid to get too excited after the 3 some millions of dollars union dues that played a role in all this but all seems fairly confident right now for our side.
