KGUN:

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) -The meeting room at St. Odilia's Catholic Church on the city's northwest side was packed with local dignitaries, witnesses to the mass shooting Jan. 8, some of the witnesses to the shootings and the first responders to the scene for a taping of an ABC-TV special, a town hall event, at 11 a.m. Saturday. Host of the program, This Week, is Christianne Amanpour. The show will air at 7 a.m. Sunday on KGUN9-TV.

Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was shot in the head at close range last Saturday by a lone gunman. She survived. A total of six people were killed. Nineteen were shot.

Jared Loughner, 22, a former Pima Community College student, is the sole suspect in the shootings. He is in FBI custody.

Toward the end of the town hall meeting Saturday morning, one of the shooting victims, J. Eric Fuller, took exception to comments by two of the speakers: Ariz. state Rep. Terri Proud, a Dist. 26 Republican, and Tucson Tea Party spokesman Trent Humphries.

According to sheriff's deputies at the scene, Fuller took a photo of Humphries and said, "You're Dead."

Deputies immediately escorted Fuller from the room.

Pima County Sheriff's spokesman Jason Ogan said later Saturday that Fuller has been charged with threats and intimidation and he also will be charged with disorderly conduct.

And more:

More from Eric Fuller:

ERIC FULLER: Once she walked up to me, she said, "I’ll answer your questions, but you have to wait." And there was a line forming up there, so I went over and I sat down and looked over my questions, only two of them, kind of long ones, and was trying to figure out which one and whether I should, you know, ask those questions, when I heard the sound of gunshots. And I looked over only about 10 or 15 feet away, where Gabrielle Giffords had been standing, and in her place was a very excited gunman who was athletically pumping out the rounds and pointing the gun at anybody that he could get a bead on.

People around me were being hit. I just dove for the ground. And while I was diving for the ground, a round hit me in the knee. I was conscious of that. And while I was on the ground, I guess another one, another round, hit me in the back. A fragment did; it hit me in the back. A woman went over and knocked the clip out of his hand. He was reloading. He had a Glock 9mm with a 30-round clip in it. And my thought on the ground was that he’s going to come and finish us off. But this woman knocked the other clip out of his hand. Then a couple of guys came along, bystanders, and they tackled him, knocked him to the ground.

I was in shock, and I just wandered out into the parking lot. And a woman was pushing a cart full of groceries out there. And I said to her, "I’ve been shot." And she just looked at me like I was crazy. I was taken to the hospital. And even though I was sedated and everything, I stayed up—I was staying up, stayed most of the night. And I didn’t know how to calm myself down, so I wrote down the Declaration of Independence, which I memorized some time ago. And that did help to organize my thoughts. And the first thing that I wrote down and what my reaction was to it was: "How many other people? How many other demented people are out there? It looks like Palin, Beck, Sharron Angle and the rest got their first target. Their wish for Second Amendment activism has been fulfilled—senseless hatred leading to murder, lunatic fringe anarchism, subscribed to by John Boehner, mainstream rebels with vengeance for all, even nine-year-old girls." There was a little girl named Christina Green, nine years old, who is one of the deceased.

Another thing I wrote down was, "Can we have another fundraiser at the target range, Jesse Kelly?" Jesse Kelly ran against her in the election. And I’ve heard him speak several—a couple of times, and I couldn’t believe he was a real candidate. I thought he was just like a fake candidate. It didn’t seem like anybody would consider him seriously. He came within 4,000 votes of winning the election. One of his slogans was: "Shoot a fully automatic M16 with Jesse Kelly." Kind of a very marginal personality and a low mentality.

I worked hard to elect Gabrielle Giffords. I would rather she was busy doing her job today than lying in a hospital with a gunshot wound in the head.

It's a misunderstanding, taken out of context and mistakenly transcribed.

Fuller took a photo of Humphries and said, "Your Dad and my Dad look just alike."

About five police officers surrounded Mr. Fuller and escorted him from the event. As he was leaving, Ms. Proud said, he turned and yelled, “You’re all whores.”

Mr. Fuller got into a confrontation shortly before the Jan. 8 attack, which occurred at a meeting between Ms. Gifford and her constituents in front of a Safeway supermarket. Mr. Fuller said in an interview this week that he argued with a man he described as a former Marine after a heated discussion over politics. Gabriel Zimmerman, an aide to Ms. Giffords, separated the two. Mr. Zimmerman was killed in the attack.

Mr. Fuller spoke dismissively of Republicans during the interview. “They appeal to simple-minded rednecks,” he said

The Pima County Attorney’s office will review the incident to see if Fuller will face any charges, he said.

Fuller, a naval air veteran, was shot in the left knee and hit in the back with bullet fragments during the shootings.

He drove himself to Northwest Medical Center after he was shot.

-----

How strange considering the emergency personnel claim they were on the scene in 8 minutes in mass.

Grief. So that's what the kids are calling it these days.

This would all be laughable, if it weren't so serious.

Fuller is quite the media hog. Before today he was on many shows and interviews all over the place.

"I just thought to play dead, so I was not executed," Fuller remembers.

But lying on the ground was not enough to escape the bullets.

Fuller was shot in the leg and grazed by a bullet in his back.

He says that's when the shock set in and he limped to his car and drove himself to the nearest hospital.

He pulled up his pant leg to show ABC 15 the wounds.

Then, he lifts his shirt to show where the bullet grazed his back, leaving stitches surrounded by bruises.

I'd almost say fake, but he is in the official list of injured and at least in this report injuries seem current...

In an interview with The Arizona Republic, Dr. Laura Nelson, deputy director of the Division of Behavioral Sciences of the Arizona Department of Health Services, said that Mr. Fuller’s actions could be a response to the trauma he suffered a week ago.

“Grief after what happened here in Tucson last week is a completely normal reaction, and anger is a very common symptom of grief,” said Dr. Nelson, who had been invited to speak at the forum. “I hope that he’ll get the help that he needs to get through this very difficult time.”

The NYTimes comes through again and 'splains it all as a "very normal" reaction...

I guess they will 'splain away his confrontation with the Marine BEFORE the attack as "Pre-traumatic Stress Disorder".

At least nobody gets surprised reading a NYTimes story these days.

"I heard the shots and looked over to where (Giffords) had been standing," Fuller said. "I saw an athletic young man pumping and taking aim. I was seated and dove to the ground to play dead."

Fuller was hit as he dove. A few seconds of silence followed. He got up in a daze, looked around and decided that because he didn't have any medical training to help the others, walked to his car and drove himself to the nearest hospital.

It is also mention in a "blog" by a poster (so who knows) that he went to try and see Loughner's parents post incident.

Sigh, not sure how much to delve into this.... If the mark I see in the photo is his injury, that does not appear to be close to his knee.

That does not reflect well on his character, frankly.

I get that.

That said, I would give this guy a pass for going straight to the hospital if he wasn't such a media hog afterwards.

But that said, I wonder if the press is coming to him...not the other way 'round. If they can twist Palin into knots, they can certainly twist this guy into knots.

Lots of questions.

If this is Fuller's 'crib'... A three car garage, etc. seems a little out of the range for a guy with this work history. Must be something else going on there?

After Saturday's shooting the number of victims started growing. The final number landing on 20.

Eric Fuller was the last shooting victim we learned about because he didn't come in with the rest of the people rushed to the hospital Saturday.

Fuller, with a gunshot wound to the leg and back, somehow managed to drive himself to the hospital.

"I didn't think i was that badly hurt," Fuller said.

That was what Fuller thought at the time.

In reality, he had two bullet wounds and a traumatic experience he would never forget.

He left his tennis match early on Saturday morning.

As a disabled veteran, he is a long time supporter of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. He said he just had a few questions to ask her at her congress on the corner event.

"I was deep in studying my notes, seated, when i started hearing explosions 10 feet away... I got hit, looked up and Gabriel Giffords wasn't there anymore," Fuller said.

The woman he helped get re-elected in 2008, the woman who personally gave in a plaque that hangs on his wall was now lying in her own blood now fighting for her life.

"I was in so much shock I didn't even look around," Fuller said. "I Just walked out into the parking lot and said to someone, a shopper, I've been shot."

As Fuller made it to his car he noticed people calling 911.

With a bullet in his right leg and one that grazed his back, he decided he could take care of himself.

So, bleeding and in shock he drove himself to Northwest Medical Center.

He was transferred to University Medical Center where he stayed up all night thinking about the day and the collateral damage left behind by one gunman.

From This Report

This sounds very "hinky", but I've got to assume he was in the hospitals mentioned.
