A Magnificent Speech

Looking back on the 2020 election, historians will say the Mt. Rushmore speech was the moment that Donald Trump won reelection.

By Roger Kimball • July 4, 2020

Donald Trump did not mention Lincoln’s First Inaugural address in his speech commemorating the spirit of American Independence at Mount Rushmore on Friday night. But the president’s speech—perhaps his most forceful and eloquent to date—vibrated with the same energy and existential commitment that fired Lincoln in March 1861.

Lincoln came to office at a time of crisis. His election had precipitated the secession of seven Southern states. His inaugural address was both a plea for conciliation and unity as well as a warning that violence would be stopped with force. “We are not enemies, but friends,” Lincoln said

Though passion may have strained it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory, stretching from every battlefield and patriot grave to every living heart and hearthstone all over this broad land, will yet swell the chorus of the Union, when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature. :snip:

Trump from Mt. Rushmore, after noting accomplishments of Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln and Roosevelt.:

No movement that seeks to dismantle these treasured American legacies can possibly have a love of America at its heart. Can’t happen. No person who remains quiet at the destruction of this resplendent heritage can possibly lead us to a better future. The radical ideology attacking our country advances under the banner of social justice, but in truth, it would demolish both justice and society. It would transform justice into an instrument of division and vengeance and it would turn our free and inclusive society into a place of a repression, domination, and exclusion. They want to silence us, but we will not be silenced. https://www.rev.com/blog/transcripts/donald-trump-speech-transcript-at-mount-rushmore-4th-of-july-event

Trump delivers an epic Independence Day speech at Mt. Rushmore

Posted by Leslie Eastman    Saturday, July 4, 2020 at 2:00pm

…upsetting protesters’ plans and causing the media to go on a gaslighting spree.

Last week, I predicted that the reason Mt. Rushmore was being targeted by social justice warriors so fiercely was because President Donald Trump was slated to be part of an Independence Day celebration at the historic monument. I theorized that it was because agitators wanted to disrupted the event.

It appears I was correct; however, the numbers and drama were limited:   :snip: https://legalinsurrection.com/2020/07/trump-delivers-an-epic-independence-day-speech-at-mt-rushmore/

CNN’s Tendentious Trump Coverage

This headline story on CNN.com is not labeled as “analysis.” It appears to be a “news” story. Here are the opening paragraphs, with emphasis added.

President Donald Trump on Friday made an impassioned appeal to his base while in the shadow of Mount Rushmore instead of striking a unifying tone, railing against what he called a “merciless campaign” by his political foes to erase history by removing monuments some say are symbols of racial oppression.   :snip: https://ricochet.com/775860/tendentious/

Trump's finest speech — and a press that beclowns itself in boiling hateJuly 4, 2020Trump's Mount Rushmore speech was unifying and uplifting. But the New York Times could only see "dark and divisive" things in it, and other media were just as bad. They seem to like to sit in the mud instead of embrace the nation on its 244th birthday. More   :snip: https://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2020/07/trumps_finest_speech__and_a_press_that_lies_about_it.html

Citizens will go on to defend statues and historical monuments, standing firm against anarchy and social justice

A Live President Set Patriot Souls Alight at Mount Rushmore Last Night

President Trump, Mount RushmoreIt happened last night—an elegant and rousing stopgap to the notion that Mount Rushmore’s timeless tribute to four American presidents would be no more.

“This monument will never be desecrated,” President Donald Trump vowed in an open air address, overlooked by the iconic mountain monument.

All of those found guilty of defacing statues and monuments will face ten years in prison.

The party’s over for lawless and destructive street anarchy

The party’s over for lawless and destructive street anarchy.

“President Trump took the stage in the shadow of Mount Rushmore on Friday night to condemn what he described as a “merciless campaign to wipe out our history, defame our heroes, erase our values, and indoctrinate our children” in an address to mark the beginning of Independence Day weekend. (Fox News, July 3, 2020)

“Trump declared the United States to be “the most just and exceptional nation ever to exist on Earth” and claimed that “no nation has done more to advance the human condition than the United States of America and no people have done more to promote human progress than the CITIZENS [emphasis original] of our great nation.”

“The president also castigated left-wing activists and practitioners of so-called “cancel culture” who have targeted statues and monuments of historical figures across America in recent weeks.

“This movement is openly attacking the legacies of every person on Mount Rushmore ...” Trump said. “Those who seek to erase our heritage want Americans to forget our pride and our great dignity, so that we can no longer understand ourselves or America’s destiny. In toppling the heroes of 1776, they seek to dissolve the bonds of love and loyalty that we feel for our country, and for each other.”   :snip: https://canadafreepress.com/article/a-live-president-set-patriot-souls-alight-at-mount-rushmore-last-night
