Miranda Devine comments on Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s threats to Supreme Court Justices Gorsuch and Kavanaugh in her New York Post column this morning. Under the heading “Schu’s shame,” she writes:

Quote

What a disgraceful fraud Chuck Schumer is, telling Trump-appointed Supreme Court Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh that they will “pay the price” unless they do what he wants.

If anyone else threatened a judge, [he]’d be arrested.

“You have released the whirlwind,” he said, directing the comment at the justices as he addressed protesters in front of the court as it considers a Louisiana law requiring abortion doctors to have admitting privileges at a hospital within 30 miles of the clinic.

But it’s a good law for women. You just have to remember abortionist butcher Kermit Gosnell, a k a “America’s Biggest Serial Killer,” to know why health authorities should not give free rein to abortion clinics.

Schuminations: Shame (2)

Early last night Nebraska Senator Ben Sasse issued the following statement on Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s threat to Justices Gorsuch and Kavanaugh:

Quote

“The Democratic Party is so radicalized on abortion politics that today Chuck Schumer threatened Justice Gorsuch and Justice Kavanaugh if they didn’t strike down a simple, common-sense, pro-woman law that simply says that abortion doctors need to have admission privileges at a local hospital. Think about this: if a Republican threatened Justice Sotomayor or Justice Ginsburg, it would be the biggest story not just in Washington but all across America. But, Chuck Schumer’s bully tactics aren’t getting much air time right now because there [are] so many people in bed with his defense of abortion and his attack on an independent judiciary. These bullying tactics need to stop.”

What Sasse characterizes as the Democrats’ “radicalized abortion politics” derives from the Democrats’ sacramental view of abortion. Sasse’s statement helps us to get the facts straight and put them in their proper context.

Sasse spokesman James Wegmanna added this apt comment on Schumer’s subsequent denial and misrepresentation of his threat:

Quote

“Schumer’s flacks are gaslighting. Schumer addressed his threat to Justices Gorsuch and Kavanaugh by name and literally pointed at the court. Check the tape.”

McConnell to Hold Schumer’s Feet to the Fire for Threatening Gorsuch, Kavanaugh

Tobias Hoonhout

March 5, 2020 8:18 AM

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.) will take aim at his Democratic counterpart Chuck Schumer in opening remarks on the Senate floor Thursday, after Schumer directed threatening comments at Supreme Court justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh on Wednesday.

McConnell plans to accuse the New York Democrat of trying to downplay the gravity of the situation by misrepresenting what was, according to McConnell, a clear threat directed at individual justices, according to a copy of his planned remarks obtained by Politico’s Playbook.

“Contrary to what the Democratic leader has tried to claim, he very clearly was not addressing Republican lawmakers or anybody else. He literally directed the statement to the justices, by name,” McConnell will say. “And he said, quote, ‘if you go forward with these awful decisions,’ which could only apply to the court itself. The minority leader of the United States Senate threatened two associate justices of the U.S. Supreme Court. Period.”

Schumer told a crowd of pro-abortion activists on Wednesday that Gorsuch and Kavanaugh “will pay the price” if they decide to overturn past precedent in June Medical Services v. Russo, the first major abortion case that the two Trump appointees have heard since being appointed.
