Epstein wants judge to let him stay in his $77 million Manhattan mansion until trial

The lawyers for Jeffrey Epstein, the wealthy jet-setting businessman who is accused of child sex trafficking, filed a letter with the court on Thursday arguing that Epstein should be allowed to stay in his massive Manhattan mansion while awaiting trial instead of spending it behind bars as prosecutors have requested. And Epstein’s attorneys suggested using the $77 million home as collateral for his bond.

Some of the criminal accusations leveled against Epstein are alleged to have occurred inside that New York City residence and, when it was raided by investigators over the weekend, possible child pornography was found in the home.

Epstein has been in jail since he was arrested by authorities at Teterboro Airport in New Jersey on his way home from Paris this weekend. His indictment, unsealed on Monday, alleges that he “sexually exploited and abused dozens of minor girls at his homes in Manhattan, New York, and Palm Beach, Florida, among other locations” between 2002 and 2005, according to a 14-page federal indictment. Epstein pleaded not guilty on Monday.:snip:

Federal prosecutors say Jeffrey Epstein worth at least $500M and a flight risk

Jerry Dunleavy

July 12, 2019

Federal prosecutors in the Southern District of New York revealed that Jeffrey Epstein, the alleged child sex trafficker and global jet-setter of mysterious wealth, is likely worth over $500 million.

Calling him a significant flight risk due to his massive fortune, prosecutors slammed the request from Epstein’s attorneys to allow their client to stay in his $77 million mansion while awaiting trial. Investigators want him to remain behind bars.

The attorneys for Epstein had also told the court Thursday that they wanted to keep * Epstein’s mysterious finances under seal and secret from the public, and prosecutors revealed on Friday that Epstein still has not fully disclosed his financial information to them. Instead, they’d obtained the $500 million figure from one of financial institutions Epstein uses.

Judge says he will probably decide Thursday on financier Epstein's bail request

July 15 2019

(Reuters) - A U.S. judge said he will probably decide on Thursday whether Jeffrey Epstein, the American financier charged with sex trafficking underage girls, should be freed from jail and allowed to await trial under house arrest at his Manhattan mansion.

At a hearing on Monday, U.S. District Judge Richard Berman in Manhattan said he will probably announce his decision on July 18 at 9;30 a.m. EDT (1330 GMT), saying he needs more time to absorb materials that have been submitted.

NY TimesJeffrey Epstein’s Safe Had ‘Piles of Cash’ and a Fake Passport, Prosecutors Say

Two women who say they were sexually abused by Mr. Epstein also urged the judge to deny him bail ahead of his sex-trafficking trial.

Benjamin Weiser and Ali Watkins

July 15 2019

Investigators discovered a safe in Jeffrey Epstein’s Manhattan mansion that held “piles of cash,” diamonds and an expired passport from a foreign country which had Mr. Epstein’s photo but a fake name and said he lived in Saudi Arabia.

Prosecutors revealed the safe’s contents as they argued on Monday in Federal District Court in Manhattan that Mr. Epstein should be denied bail before his sex-trafficking and conspiracy trial because he was a flight risk and a danger to the community.

He is accused of abusing dozens of underage girls in New York and Florida in the early 2000s.

Two women who said Mr. Epstein had abused them bolstered the government’s argument, urging Judge Richard M. Berman to deny him bail.

Giuliani warns Epstein case could 'implicate a lot of people'

Rudy Giuliani, a personal attorney for President Trump, warned Monday that a renewed investigation into registered sex offender Jeffrey Epstein could potentially implicate many more prominent individuals.

Epstein was indicted earlier this month on sex trafficking charges. The U.S. Attorney's Office in Manhattan alleged that the billionaire financier abused dozens of minors from 2002 to 2005 by creating “a network and operation enabling him to sexually exploit and abuse dozens of underage girls.”

Epstein has denied any wrongdoing and he has since been ordered to remain in detention until his hearing after he was deemed a flight risk.

“It’s obviously going to implicate a lot of people — I can’t tell you who but it’s not going to end up with just Jeffrey Epstein,” Giuliani told Hill.TV during an interview on “Rising.”

Giuliani said investigators will likely question those in his inner circle and question how they could have possibly missed the potential warning signs.:snip:

New York magazine has published an extensive feature on accused sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein's elite circle of friends and associates, which at one point included both President Donald Trump, who previously identified as a Democrat, and former President Bill Clinton.

The list of names, compiled from Epstein's address book and the flight logs of his private jet, includes a number of less recognizable individuals who are nevertheless deeply connected to the Democratic Party establishment, and to the Clintons in particular.:snip:

Epstein visited the Clinton White House in the 1990s: Report

:snip:

Epstein’s White House visits in the 1990s and Clinton's attendance at a fundraising dinner in 1995 where Epstein showed up are not the only things that contradict Clinton’s official statement from two weeks ago.

Clinton’s statement claimed that “in 2002 and 2003, President Clinton took a total of four trips on Jeffrey Epstein's airplane: One to Europe, one to Asia, and two to Africa,” but a Washington Examiner review of the flight manifest records shows that Clinton actually went on at least 27 flights on Epstein’s “Lolita Express” totaling at least six trips, not four. Clinton’s official statement leaves off a trip from Florida to New York, as well as a second lengthy trip across the Asian continent.:snip:
