Just do it: Senate must act on health care

July 07. 2017 2:12AM

Just about the only thing that has unified the Republican Party over the past decade is the premise that the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was a bad law, and should be repealed.

With President Barack Obama in office, congressional Republicans had no qualms about sending repeal bills to a certain veto. But now that President Donald Trump is poised to sign a repeal into law, the GOP has cold feet.

Some Republicans want to repeal the law and walk away. Others want to pass a whole new national health care system in its place. A few are suddenly worried that unraveling one of the greatest wealth transfers in American history might mean that some people stop receiving a government benefit.
