President Trump will announce 10 nominees to the lower federal courts Monday. A White House official confirmed to The New York Times the 10 nominees will be the first in what will be monthly waves of judicial appointments.
In the wake of Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch’s confirmation, over 120 federal judge vacancies still need to be filled. Republicans no longer need to factor in filibusters that could hamper any of the incoming nominees, given the last two rule changes that happened in the Senate over the last four years.

Here come the judges: Trump begins “near monthly” appellate, district nominations

posted at 8:41 am on May 8, 2017 by Ed Morrissey

The Trump administration has not put much focus into filling executive-branch openings. They’re not making the same mistake with the judiciary. The New York Times’ Adam Liptak reports that the White House will announce ten nominations to fill openings in appellate and district courts, and that the administration plans to make judiciary nominations a “near monthly” event:

Having filled a Supreme Court vacancy, President Trump is turning his attention to the more than 120 openings on the lower federal courts. On Monday, he will announce a slate of 10 nominees to those courts, a senior White House official said, the first in what could be near monthly waves of nominations.

The White House counsel, Donald F. McGahn II, said the nominations were a vindication of a commitment Mr. Trump made during the campaign “to appoint stron g and principled jurists to the federal bench who will enforce the Constitution’s limits on federal power and protect the liberty of all Americans.”       :snip:

Trump Finally Moves to Fill Empty Seats on Federal Courts

White House pledges to ramp up political, judicial appointments as conservatives fret pace

by Jim Stinson | Updated 09 May 2017 at 6:59 AM

The White House announced it would fill 10 judicial vacancies on federal courts Monday, welcome news to conservatives who have fretted the slow pace of appointments, both in the administration and the courts, made by the White House.

Trump even suggested his White House may never fill some of the top political jobs in the government, in an interview last week with the Washington Examiner.

“If you don’t do that, I don’t care how many executive orders you write — they’re not going to be carried out.”

While those posts didn’t include judicial vacancies, the remark only created more anxiety in general about unfilled positions — a problem supporters worry will undermine the ability of the White House to deliver on key agenda items. There are roughly 9,000 total positions made by presidential appointments in the federal government, but roughly 5,000 of those are typically held by career civil servants who typically continue to serve in a new administration. :snip:   http://www.lifezette.com/polizette/trump-finally-moves-to-fill-empty-seats-on-federal-courts/
