Supreme Court sides with Samsung in its patent fight with Apple

The Supreme Court on Tuesday unanimously reversed and remanded a lower court's ruling that said Samsung must pay Apple $399 million as a penalty for infringing on its smartphone patents.

 

Justice Sonia Sotomayor delivered the opinion, which is a partial win for Samsung, as the Samsung v. Apple case is now headed back to the lower courts. The high court held that the federal circuit erroneously ruled in favor of Apple by narrowing its reading of the term "article of manufacture" beyond the text of the statute at issue.
