A new round of battleground state polls conducted in the wake of the FBI’s stunning renewal of its investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails shows a tight race in the eight states that could determine the outcome of the election.

A survey from Remington Research Group shows Donald Trump gaining on Clinton or growing his lead over her in seven of the eight states polled.

Trump has leads of between 2 points and 5 points over Clinton in Florida, Nevada, North Carolina and Ohio.

Clinton leads Trump by between 1 point and 4 points in Colorado, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin.

The battlegrounds map still leans in Clinton’s favor. Trump must run the table in all of the states where he leads, and pick off at least one where Clinton is favored.Scissors-32x32.png

Election polling in disarray with wild disparities among top firms, GOP undercounting in 2014 _ Rowan Scarborough

At this time four years ago when President Obama was running for re-election, there were no polling outliers.

Run down the list of 15 top pollsters, and their results in late October 2012 on Real Clear Politics. No matter the firm, the national numbers were within a few points of one another. Mr. Obama was up 1 or 2 points, or Mitt Romney was tied or up a point.

What a difference four years, and perhaps Republican Donald Trump, make. National polls are anything but uniform. Perhaps this disparity was signaled in 2014, when pollsters badly missed in a number of key races by undercounting Republican voters.

Four respected firms — Gravis Marketing, Rasmussen, USC Dornsife/LA Times and IBD/TIPP — for weeks have put the contest either at a statistical dead heat or up or down a point or two.

Then The Associated Press came out with a wow poll Thursday showing Mrs. Clinton up by a whopping 14 points.Scissors-32x32.png

The poll — conducted Oct. 27-30 — was in the field as the news broke Friday that the FBI is investigating newly discovered emails connected to Clinton’s home-brew server set up in her home while serving as secretary of state.

The FBI director, James Comey, previously acknowledged the bureau conducted a criminal investigation to determine whether Clinton unlawfully sent or received classified information on her personal email account during that time. But over the summer, he said he did not recommend prosecuting the case.Scissors-32x32.png
