Republican voters want their party to stand behind its nominee, businessman Donald Trump, after the Washington Post last Friday leaked extremely lewd audio of Trump from 2005, according to a Politico/Morning Consult poll.

The poll, released Sunday, found that 74 percent of Republican voters believe that GOP party officials should continue to back and support Trump, while just 13 percent said the party shouldn’t continue to back him.

Overall, the poll found that just 39 percent of voters believe Trump should end his campaign, while 45 percent said that he shouldn’t. Those numbers were split down party lines: 70 percent of Democrats said Trump should withdraw from the race, while only 12 percent of Republicans said the same.

The poll was conducted entirely on Saturday and was composed of 1,549 registered voters and 1,390 likely voters. The overall margin of error was plus or minus two percentage points.

Still, Republican lawmakers, in addition to highly influential Republican and conservative figures, continue to call on Trump to step down and let another Republican challenge Democrat Hillary Clinton for the White House. Trump, for his part, is defiant and says there is “zero chance” of him stepping down.

Not ready to dump Trump.
