(CNSNews.com) – The Obama administration proposes to increase the number of refugees admitted into the United States over the next fiscal year to 110,000 – a 57.2 percent increase from the 69,933 resettled in FY 2015 and a 29.4 percent increase from the FY 2016 target of 85,000.

The administration earlier set a FY 2017 projection of 100,000 admissions, but President Obama is hosting a leaders’ refugee summit on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly in New York next week, with the aim of encouraging all countries to admit more refugees next year

Secretary of State John Kerry and Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson briefed Senate and House Judiciary subcommittees on the issue on Tuesday.

Responding to the plans – outlined in a new report to Congress on proposed refugee admissions for FY 2017 – Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) said in a statement afterwards the administration was expanding “its reckless and extreme policies” while ignoring Americans’ concerns.Scissors-32x32.png

Border Patrol Chief: 7,542 Agents Assaulted Since 2006; 30 Died in Line of Duty Since 2003

CNSNews.com) - Mark Morgan, the head of the U.S. Border Patrol, told Congress on Tuesday that in his first few months on the job, he's learned that the men and women who carry out the "never-ending mission" often do so at personal risk to themselves.

"You know, the numbers we often hear associated with the United States Border Patrol are the numbers of annual apprehensions of those attempting to illegally enter the country every year. It's hundreds of thousands.Scissors-32x32.png

Exclusive — Report: Feds Force American Communities to Educate Almost 4 Million Foreign Students

The political establishment’s insatiable appetite for immigration is forcing hard-pressed American communities to divert funding from their own children to educate roughly 3.62 million foreign students, many of whom are teenagers and do not speak English, according to a new analysis by an immigration reform group.

“Public school districts across the United States are suffering under a massive unfunded mandate imposed by the federal government… to educate millions of illegal aliens, the school age children of illegal aliens, refugees and legal immigrant students,” says the report released Tuesday by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR).

“It currently costs public schools $59.8 billion [per year] to serve this burgeoning population,” the report states.

“The struggle to fund programs for students with Limited English Proficiency (LEP), sometimes called English Language Learners (ELL), represents a major drain on school budgets. Yet due to political correctness, it is taboo to raise the issue even though resources are redirected away from American citizens to support programs like English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and English as a Second Language (ESL).”

White House Goal: 40,000 Additional Refugees from Near East, South Asia

(CNSNews.com) – The U.S. State Department has set a goal of admitting 110,000 refugees to the United States in Fiscal 2017, a 29.4 percent increase from the FY 2016 target of 85,000, “but at this point, no country-specific targets have been set,” White House spokesman Josh Earnest told reporters on Wednesday.

“I do have the regional breakdown here,” Earnest continued. “[T]he regional target for FY 2017 is 40,000 for the Near East and South Asia region.”

The Near East includes Middle Eastern countries and northern Africa. South Asia includes Afghanistan, Pakistan, India and surrounding countries.Scissors-32x32.png
