This year’s presidential debates will be moderated by NBC's Lester Holt, Fox News’s Chris Wallace, CNN's Anderson Cooper and ABC's Martha Raddatz.

The nonprofit, non-partisan Commission on Presidential Debates on Friday unveiled the list of moderators, which had been hotly debated in recent weeks.

Holt will handle the pivotal first presidential debate at Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y., on Sept. 26. This will be his first time moderating a general election presidential debate.

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump recently gave a thumbs-up to Holt, telling radio host Hugh Hewitt in an August interview that he thinks "Lester Holt is a good guy." Holt was the only name broached in the interview that Trump had unqualified praise for.

Raddatz and Cooper will team up to cover the town hall-style debate on Oct. 9 at Washington University in St. Louis. Scissors-32x32.png

MOSTLY IMMODERATE MODERATORS NAMED

Politico reports that NBC’s Lester Holt (September 26), ABC’s Martha Raddatz (October 9), CNN’s Anderson Cooper, Fox News’s Chris Wallace (October 19) and will moderate the three presidential debates this fall, according to the announcement of the Commission on Presidential Debates this morning; CBS’s Elaine Quijano will moderate the vice presidential debate (October 4).

The first debate (September 26) lies entirely in the hands of Lester Holt. Holt is a rabid partisan advocate of left-wing dogmas. He was the perfect moderator to serve obnoxious loaded questions to the Democratic presidential candidates in their NBC debate this past January. Scott Whitlock documented the four most obnoxious such questions for NewsBusters here.

Austin Bay showed why Anderson Cooper “has no business moderating a presidential debate”in a good column for the New York Observer.Scissors-32x32.png

...and Chris Wallace...why...oh...why does the RNC think that this is a "fair" representation of media? It's accurate as a sample of the normal bias...but why not (@Valin's Skinny Broad) Ann Coulter? Why not at least a balance like FNC's Judge Napolitano? This is where the rubber meets the road & we've already conceded the debates to Leftist Journ-o-listers that have proven they will not remain impartial. Hello...Candy Crowley? Oh...wait...that was waaaaay back in 2012...

@SrWoodchuck - I really don't care for the shrill Coulter, but Greta might have been good.

I agree, she's shrill, @Geee...but also very intelligent, quick-witted and passionate when she see's a high tech media lynching. I would have preferred FNC's Laura Ingraham, over Greta. I've seen her take on two rabid leftist clowns and hold her own.

Well, I think the major point of the debates is to try to sway undecided voters, highly important in this cycle. The moderator can not be obviously biased ( I know, I know, but the rules aren't the same for Republicans) but bring out the questions that the non-political junkies have maybe not heard before. If they do it caustically it nullifies the effect. If you do it in an obviously biased way, it loses the point you are trying to make. Chris may surprise and do this - who knows. He has a reputation to hold up.
