Draggingtree Posted August 25, 2016 Share Posted August 25, 2016 Red State: Donald Trump Vindicates Ted Cruz’s Convention SpeechPosted at 10:00 am on August 25, 2016 by streiff When Ted Cruz took the stage in Cleveland and urged Republicans to vote their conscience it was thought by many to be a risky move that potentially damaged Cruz because in the era of Trump "voting your conscience" means rejecting the Cheeto Jesus. (The fact that pro-Trump delegates booed that suggestion shows the previously unplumbed depths of ethical and moral corruption that exists in the GOP.) As it turns out, having faced Trump in the primary, Ted Cruz was making a sure bet because he knew and understood Trump much better than Trump's supporters. He knows that Trump is a poseur who gives "shallow" a bad name and that, inevitably, he'd throw his supporters under the bus. Last evening on Sean Hannity's infomercial, Donald Trump embraced the Gang of 8 comprehensive immigration reform plan. This, as Leon points out, should not have surprised anyone who had paid attention to Trump. It is the flop. People are entitled to change their mind. But once they have changed their mind, flopping back to their original position seems like rank opportunism. Until he ran for President of the United States, Donald Trump supported the Chamber of Commerce’s open borders position. In 2012, while supporting Mitt Romney, Donald Trump still criticized the then Republican nominee for having too harsh and uncaring an immigration policy. Trump has, in the past, bragged about hiring immigrants and has taken the position that illegal immigrants should not be rounded up and sent packing. In fact, Trump once supported the DREAM Act and believed illegal aliens who are children should be allowed to stay in the United States.
