Valin
Friends of Ours: 7/30/16 Last year federal prosecutors indicted New Jersey Senator Robert Menendez and his political patron Salomon Melgen on corruption charges, and now an appeals court has affirmed the district judge who rejected the accused politician's novel argument that the criminal case should be thrown out because of a constitutional clause protecting legislative acts as reported by Politico: Menendez unsuccessfully had "argued that under the Speech or Debate clause -- a constitutional privilege that shields lawmakers and staff from legal action over legitimate legislative activities -- he could not be charged with improperly aiding Melgen." In affirming the lower court which rejected the defense claim, the appeals court held there was ample evidence that Senator Menendez was not lawfully acting further to his legislative duties but illegally lobbying for his campaign benefactor. Oh, and the feds still suspect Bob Menendez may be a perv who banged child prostitutes as reported by Dan Friedman for the Daily News: "Justice Department lawyers say the hooker allegations 'were not so easily disprovable as the defendants suggest," and "they received 'specific, corroborated allegations that defendants Menendez and Melgen had sex with underage prostitutes in the Dominican Republic.'" Draggingtree
Why a U.S. Senator’s Impending Trial Has Democrats Worried Jury selection begins in case against New Jersey's Menendez, charged with bribery, conspiracy, lying by Edmund Kozak | Updated 23 Aug 2017 at 6:29 AM Jury selection for the trial of New Jersey Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez began Tuesday, more than two years since the disgraced politician was indicted on a number of bribery and corruption charges. The trial, which centers on a slew of charges surrounding Menendez’s relationship with Dr. Salomon Melgen, a corrupt Medicare fraudster who is also facing charges, has a potential to not only end Menendez’s career but also to tip the balance of the Senate even further in favor of the Republican Party. Democrats are not exactly displaying enthusiasm at the prospect of the imminent trial. http://www.lifezette.com/polizette/why-a-u-s-senators-impending-trial-has-democrats-worried/
