Democracynow.org - In a major legal victory, New York City will appoint an independent civilian monitor to oversee the New York Police Department’s counterterrorism activities. The announcement comes after two lawsuits challenged the NYPD’s programs of spying on Muslims and religious centers. The suits argued the NYPD violated the U.S. and New York state constitutions by singling out and stigmatizing entire communities based on their religion. The settlement restores some of the NYPD’s outside oversight, which was eliminated after the September 11 attacks. We are joined by Hina Shamsi, director of the American Civil Liberties Union’s National Security Project.

One of the things we are seeing in GWOT is a civil war inside Islam, and we * may be collateral damage. So yes it does have a great deal to do with Islam ...just not what your Robert Spencer types say.Islam.

 

This is also part of what I call The Hinge of History (huge radical changes in human society), There are large numbers of people who don't understand what is happening and it frightens them. Here in America we see the Sandernistas & the T-Bots, in Europe the rise of the various "Far Right" parties, and in Islam people who 1. what to go back to the 8th century (or at least as they image it) 2. God wants you to kill anyone who doesn't believe exactly what you believe.
