Draggingtree
P J Media: Trump Has an Awesome SCOTUS ListBut what of it? BY STEPHEN GREEN, MAY 19, 2016 I hope I don't sound too much like a convert/fanboy, but Donald Trump's list of 11 potential Supreme Court nominees is a damn good list -- not perfect, but damn good. And releasing it is a big, ballsy move. Most GOP wannabes just make vague assurances about nominating someone "in the mold of Antonin Scalia," but Trump has gone and named names. • Steven Colloton of Iowa • Allison Eid of Colorado • Raymond Gruender of Missouri • Thomas Hardiman of Pennsylvania • Raymond Kethledge of Michigan • Joan Larsen of Michigan • Thomas Lee of Utah • William Pryor of Alabama • David Stras of Minnesota • Diane Sykes of Wisconsin • Don Willett of Texas. Draggingtree
Donald Trump Unveils New, More Diverse Supreme Court Short List Nina Totenberg September 23, 20163:22 PM ET Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump expanded his list of potential Supreme Court nominees Friday. The new list consists of 10 more possible nominees, including a U.S. senator who has refused to endorse Trump. Trump's additional list, coming just days before the first debate, suggests he wants to add diversity to his earlier all-white list of eight men and three women. The second list, like the first, consists of bedrock conservatives, many with records hostile to abortion rights, same-sex marriage and federal regulations. While the new list adds the name of just one more woman, it is more racially and ethnically diverse — one African-American state court judge, a Venezuelan-born federal judge and another federal judge of South Asian descent. Except for Sen. Lee, Trump's list is drawn from other courts around the country, both state and federal. Friday's additional 10 include: Keith Blackwell Charles Canady Neil Gorsuch Mike Lee Edward Mansfield Federico Moreno Margaret A. Ryan Amul Thapar Timothy Tymkovich Robert Young http://www.npr.org/2016/09/23/495216645/donald-trump-unveils-new-more-diverse-supreme-court-short-list
Draggingtree
October 24, 2016 Trump Short-Lister Young Is Scalia Fan, Traditionalist By Patrick Gregory Oct. 19 — Michigan Supreme Court Chief Justice Robert P. Young was surprised to see his name on Donald Trump’s list of potential U.S. Supreme Court nominees, he told Bloomberg BNA. But Young—the highest black elected official serving Michigan—is a “judicial traditionalist” and “a great fan of” the late Justice Antonin Scalia, which might explain why he’s on the Republican presidential nominee’s list. The chief justice has a Republican political background and says he supports “basic middle class values.” Young doesn’t believe his racial background should influence how he interprets the law, he told Bloomberg BNA by telephone Oct. 18. I don’t run away from the idea that some might think of me as a conservative.” http://www.bna.com/trump-shortlister-young-n57982079045/
