Bernie Sanders’ ‘War’ On Climate Change Would Sharply Boost CO2 Emissions

Elections: Bernie Sanders gets enthusiastic support from environmentalists for his tough talk on climate change. Do they know that his plan, if enacted, would increase CO2 emissions? If they do know, why do they remain silent?

 

Sanders calls climate change “the single greatest threat facing our planet” and says the country has to approach the threat “as if we were literally at war.”

 

In the next breath, however, he says he’d phase out the biggest “clean” energy source around and cripple another that is responsible for the substantial decline in CO2 emissions.

 

A key plank of Sanders’s energy plan is to stop renewing licenses for any nuclear power plants — which currently provide one-fifth of the nation’s electricity and emit zero CO2 — effectively killing them off over time.
