With only three candidates left in the race, only two of whom have a numerically plausible path to the nomination, we should be reaching the clarifying stages of this election. And if the polling is to be believed, that’s exactly what’s happening.

 

The most recent polls listed by RCP all show Donald Trump leading in winner-take-all Arizona by double-digits. It’s hard to see how it goes otherwise.

 

Senator Ted Cruz is poised to win neighboring Utah by an even larger margin; it’s possible he may win a majority and with it all of the state’s delegates. If he fails to win a majority, the delegates will be assigned proportionally, although the details are absurdly complicated. So we’re likely looking at a night that ends with Trump increasing his lead on Cruz by at least 18 delegates, though probably not much more than that. It may yet be enough to deny Trump a majority, but it’ll be a close call.
