Geee
The Mantra of #NeverTrump Shall Be This After tonight’s stunning (or not so stunning) loss and Ted Cruz dropping out of the race, the question that I and others are being asked is will we unify behind the presumptive GOP nominee now that he is essentially inevitable? The answer is, of course not. #NeverTrump was not a fad. It was not an attempt to change a narrative. It was not a wish or a desire. #NeverTrump is a fact. Those who subscribe to the idea are saying that Trump is a dangerous, unpredictable man whose aspirations don’t align with conservatism. Whose morals are questionable at best. Whose relationship with the truth is not just tenuous, it’s borderline hostile. #NeverTrump is not an endorsement of Hillary, it’s an acceptance that Hillary’s ascension is inevitable when the alternative is a wannabe despot. http://www.redstate.com/aglanon/2016/05/03/mantra-nevertrump-shall/

Geee
Sometimes There Is No Lesser Of Two Evils I stole the headline from Professor Randy Barnett, whose new book “Our Republican Constitution” is a must read. And when the choice is two reprehensible, corrupt, and immoral demagogues, you can always pick the ethical way out and say none of the above. The republic will survive an election cycle. The Republican Party is a different story, however. For those who are idealists about the Constitution–and there are probably far fewer than some of us like to imagine–there are a number of reasons to sabotage The Party of Trump, even if it ends with a Hillary presidency. The first is salvaging some of your own dignity and principles. But there are other, long-term political advantages to beating back an authoritarian populist who peddles conspiracy theories and big-government schemes and doesn’t have a freshman-level comprehension about the basic workings of American governance. For starters, there are things just as important as the presidency. It’s better to have a minority party impeding the growth of government power—yes, often ineffectively and incompetently—than enabling two parties that embrace it. To save a party of more limited government, conservatives must 1) save Congress from Trump and 2) save the GOP from itself. How To Lose Congress On the same day that billionaire wins the GOP Indiana primary and secures the party’s nomination, he decides to use an National Enquirer story—the future in-flight publication of Air Force One—to accuse opponent Ted Cruz’s father of helping Lee Harvey Oswald. This was just an amuse-bouche of the utter stupidity that down-ballot GOP candidates will have to deal with, justify, rationalize, ignore, excuse, or support every day for the next six months or so. One hopes the stench of this kind of endorsement clings to them for the rest of their unprincipled and, hopefully, short political careers. http://thefederalist.com/2016/05/04/sometimes-there-is-no-lesser-of-two-evils/
Geee
AFTER LAST NIGHT And here I thought that the “Republican establishment” or “GOPe” had “rigged the system” to prevent the nomination of Donald Trump! I shouldn’t have believed whoever it was who told us that. Despite what he told us, it wasn’t so. As I am afraid will prove to be the case with many other such things in November. “We’re going to win so much we’re going to get tired of winning” is the first that comes to mind today. Republican voters have spoken. Donald Trump will be our nominee. I hear he can be very presidential if he wants to be. I thought the Republican field this year was extraordinarily strong. My own preferred candidates didn’t even make it to the starting line. Until a couple of months ago, I didn’t anticipate that Donald Trump would prevail. Since it became obvious he would emerge as the nominee, I have done my best to relax and enjoy it. I particularly “enjoyed” Trump’s imputation of participation in the Kennedy assassination to Cruz’s father yesterday, based on the National Enquirer’s reportage. http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2016/05/after-last-night-19.php

SrWoodchuck
How The GOP Plans To Stop Trump http://www.theonion.com/graphic/how-gop-plans-stop-trump-52808 In response to Donald Trump’s growing presidential primary lead, here’s how Republican Party leaders are ramping up efforts to prevent him from getting enough delegates to win the nomination outright. Combine inspirational charisma of Ted Cruz with raw sexual magnetism of John KasichGradually win over Trump supporters by posting subtle pro-establishment messages in YouTube comments sections of chemtrail conspiracy videosStress how Trump’s most ludicrous-sounding policies really not all that different from Cruz’s and Kasich’sPunch a wall a few times in frustrationCall Trump in the middle of the night and then hang up to ensure he’s constantly tiredPublish a measured but critical op-ed suggesting Trump may possess personality traits at odds with the demands of nation’s highest officeQuietly announce additional GOP primaries in delegate-rich states of Cruziana and KasichbergMaybe a few million more dollars’ worth of ads where someone talks in a deep voiceMake concerted effort to start taking Trump seriously eight months ago. **************************************************************************** This was out before the collapse of the Cruz & Kasich campaigns...but a lot still applies. SrWoodchuck
A Litmus Test All I ask is that you be HONEST WITH YOURSELVES when I present the following question. Please, no smartass answers that attempt to skirt the question I’m about to ask- If Trump ran as a democrat and he marched out on the stage with Clinton and Sanders, and he delivered the same arguments, the same speeches, the same platform as he did during the republican debates, who amongst us on the right would look at the Tee Vee and say, “he’s worse than Hillary!!!!”? That is only a slight exaggeration of the comments there. You know I used to think that we (Republicans/Conservative/Libertarians) were the party of thought and reason and the other side (Democrats/Liberals/Progressives) were the party of emotion and feelings. I'm starting to question that. Whatever happened to..."I don't agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death, your right to say it?" That...is a Free Republic. People are allowed differing opinions & the opportunity to use logic to persuade others to their point of view...instead of force. I maintain that Progressives can live freely under conservative governance, but Conservatives are not allowed to live freely under Progressive rule. The last 7+ years are a study in the loss of freedoms. To think that another Progressive Democratic Socialist administration would not continue that erosion & theft...is not logical. Add to that, the fact that since the Gore/Kerry losses, there is a commitment to use whatever tool & executive order is necessary to permanently alter the ability for them to lose power...and for an election to be free of fraud. By their actions, ye shall know them. The 2 party situation has not existed for some time. About the time conservatives stopped acting on their proven values & moved to "the center" to gain votes. Unfortunately, as they moved to "the center" the Progressives headed much further left. Trumps is an end result of that "change"...which was always promised & brought in force. Every area of American life has been & will continue to be affected. Is Trump what you say? Yes. Is he a proven criminal like Killary, or a crazed Socialist like Sanders? Not even close. We've had extremely poor conservative choices in the last 3 election cycles for pResident. No difference here, except...Trump is not as co-opted as the losers of the last elections & does speak to a return to a free market and an end to the New Democrats of illegal immigration & the unnecessary endangerment of Americans by the rapid immigration of Muslims in what is still a predominately Judeo-Christian country. Appointment of a strict constitutionalist to replace Alito is critical to keeping the 1st through the 5th Amendments...and our very freedom. What would Killary bring? Sanders? These are my opinions. Thank you for allowing me to post them. You don't have to like anything I post...but I appreciate the opportunity to express my fears & my logic about a very flawed candidate....as opposed to a malignant & criminal candidate. We need to elect good conservatives to Congress...to keep reins on Trump or Killary. Not professional politicians, but good representatives.
