Earlier this year it had been widely rumoured the service would expand its character limit to 10,000 - ending the traditional 140 character limit.

Dorsey was spearheading the project, code-named '140 Plus,' according to a previous report in the Wall Street Journal.

However, he told Lauer the limit is here to stay.

''it's staying, its a good constraint for us.'

As the social network approaches its tenth anniversary on Monday, Dorsey said 'It's grown up to be a great kid.'

when asked about the online trolls who frequently use the service, he replied 'It's reflective of the world - we see as much optimism as negativity.'

He also revealed he has never blocked a user, claiming 'I want to see what people are saying.'

Twitter has also recently been accused on censoring users, something Dorsey denies.

'We absolutely do not censor,' he said.

However, he admitted that some tweets, such as those that promote violence, are against the firm's terms of service.
