Senate Republicans are not budging on the Garland nomination. Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) repeated the Senate Judiciary Committee’s stance, which is that they’re not holding a hearing for Obama’s nominee.

Later this afternoon, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell took to the floor to say that the Republican majority is going to observe the "Biden rule" in order to give the American people a voice in this “momentous decision.”

“American people may well elect a president who decided nominate Judge Garland for Senate consideration; the next president may decide to nominate someone very different,” McConnell said. “Give the people a voice in filling this vacancy,” he added.

He also reminded colleagues of the origins of the Biden rule, which has its origins with then-Sen. Joe Biden (D-DE) on the issue of judicial nominations during election years:

McConnell & Grassley both voted against the original nomination of Merrick Garland to the bench. That should tell you something about Garlands ideology.

Harry Reid throws in the towel on Garland confirmation before November
Jazz Shaw
March 26, 2016

Not that I expect the liberal army in political media to stop flogging this dead horse the election is over, but the actual fight in Congress over the nomination of Merrick Garland seems to be at an end. The clearest signal yet for such a conclusion came when Harry Reid took a few gaggle questions and changed his stance to one of saying that Garland would be confirmed after Hillary Clinton is elected. (Yahoo News)

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid predicts the Senate will confirm Merrick Garland for the Supreme Court after Hillary Clinton wins the presidential election in November.

The Nevada Democrat says Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s refusal to consider a high court nominee until a new president offers a nomination for the vacancy is “dumb advice” for Republican senators.

Reid said at a news conference that it would be foolish for Republicans to wait until after the election. But he predicted Democrats would win the White House and Republicans would choose to confirm the moderate Garland over a Clinton nominee, who might be more liberal.

Tuesday round-up

There is still more coverage and commentary relating to the death of Justice Antonin Scalia and the battle over the nomination of Chief Judge Merrick Garland to succeed him. Emmarie Huetteman of The New York Times reports on the “tango of praise and rejection” as Garland meets with senators, while Burgess Everett of Politico reports that “Democrats are getting badly outspent by their conservative rivals in the war over Merrick Garland’s confirmation, suggesting that President Barack Obama’s closest allies in the Supreme Court battle have more bark than bite.” Elsewhere in The New York Times, Carl Hulse reports that “Democrats intend to step up efforts to make” Republican Senator Charles Grassley of Iowa “the poster boy for refusing to act on President Obama’s nomination of Judge Garland.” At The Hill, Jessie Hellmann reports on remarks by Senator Jeff Flake of Arizona, who said on Sunday “that his colleagues should approve President Obama’s Supreme Court nominee if it appears the Republican Party will lose the White House in November.” Finally, Richard Wolf of USA Today reports that Scalia’s “presence while cases were being considered in the fall and winter has led to decisions this spring that shed light on his input during the last months of his life.” Scissors-32x32.png

Wednesday round-up

Yesterday Chief Judge Merrick Garland submitted an (unsolicited) questionnaire to the Senate Judiciary Committee. Josh Gerstein reported on the planned submission for Politico, while Mary Clare Jalonick and Mark Sherman covered the filing itself for the Associated Press. And Bloomberg’s Greg Stohr reports that Garland “disqualified himself for financial reasons from 66 cases that came before him as an appellate judge, stepping aside in clashes involving climate change and mutual funds.” Scissors-32x32.png

Unsolicited? 1. a political ploy 2. someone doesn't have anything better to do with his time.

One part Secret Squirrel & one part relentless Progressive strategy.

Brandi Hoffine, WH spokes"person" is a 30-something, left educated committed cadre that has been assigned the task of getting Garland in Supreme black. I'm sure it helps speed the work if Obama gets his 3rd term Killary is elected.

Garlands picture in 2 of the links are disturbing to me because he resembles George Soros, in the "dead eyes" + knowing, smug smile, insanely Progressive department.
