Lies, Damned Lies, and Donald J. Trump

2001471Weekly Standard:

Donald Trump began his post-primary press conference in Jupiter, Florida, Tuesday evening by castigating the “$38 million dollars worth of horrible lies" against him by his political opponents over the last week. But in true Trump form, the GOP frontrunner delivered a litany of lies, falsehoods, and misleading statements of his own. Oh, and that $38 million figure Trump cited? It's made up.

Mitt Romney's speech last week blasting Trump for his underwhelming business record seems to have gotten under the candidate's skin, and so Trump spent much of his Tuesday-night appearance boasting about his successes. Over at Mashable, Jonathan Ellis documents how much of what Trump said was simply wrong.

Trump Steaks? A defunct brand since 2007 that sold poorly in the first place, which explains why the meat being hawked at Trump National Golf Club as the real deal was actually from a local, non-Trump-affiliated butcher. Trump Water? Standard bottled water with the Donald's branding. Trump Magazine? The actual publication closed down years ago, and the magazine Trump waved around at his press conference is actually a "glorified brochure" for Trump's resort properties. Trump Airlines? Trump claims he sold it in a "great deal," but the Wall Street Journal showed his attempt in 1989 to transform Eastern Airlines's shuttle business into a luxury airline failed because it carried a "high debt load" and "eventually defaulted."Scissors-32x32.png

Model sues Donald Trump’s modelling agency for allegedly 'lying' about payment

A judge will decide by the end of this month whether to proceed with a proposed class action lawsuit filed by a Jamaican fashion model against Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump's modelling agency, the judge's office said.

Alexia Palmer accuses Trump Model Management LLC of lying to the federal government in its work-visa application that said she would be paid a $75,000-a-year salary while living in the United States, according to court documents.

Instead, according to court papers, Palmer received a total of $3,880.75 during the three years she was under contract with the agency. The complaint alleges “fraudulent misrepresentation” and violations of U.S. immigration and labor laws. It asks for $225,000 in back pay.Scissors-32x32.png

Drip Drip Drip from some of the media at last. They should have been doing this months ago and not have to leave it up to the candidates. They laid off of Obama because he was Black and they didn't want to be labeled racist - they laid off of Trump because he's a rich NY mogul And they were afraid of blow back - cowards in both cases. They are responsible for Obama and will be responsible for Hillary - but maybe that's what they want. If Trump is the nominee - Hillary will be President.

The Trump standard: Any past statements are off limits

Traditionally, presidential elections force candidates to compare their actual records against what they're saying on the campaign trail.

Governors running for president typically have to answer for how they've run their states. Members of Congress typically have to answer for their voting records. When there are gaps in a candidate's actual voting or governing records, the focus turns to past statements.

But a different standard has been applied to Donald Trump. He has a very long history of making liberal statements, but whatever he's said in the past gets swept under the rug in favor of what he happens to be saying at that very moment.Scissors-32x32.png
