KM: You know, this retreat, we have the Senate with us, the Senate Republicans as well, which I think is very healthy, because a lot of our challenge isn’t what comes out of the House, but what comes out of the Senate after coming out of the House, the Democrats and that 60 vote rule. And there’s one thing that Speaker Ryan worked on when we worked on getting the omni, and that was for the Democrats to stop filibustering our appropriation process. He got Harry Reid to say publicly that he would not filibuster bringing the bills up. Now that doesn’t mean he might not filibuster shutting them down or moving forward, but the American public could actually see what we’re going through there.

HH: Oh, so if the House sends…

KM: We have a lot of different speakers coming in, but the one thing we want to do together is craft our agenda that we unite together on, and move big, bold ideas.

HH: Now expand on what you just said. That’s news, actually. If Harry Reid, I was unaware that he’d given a commitment to allow appropriations bills to be brought up and debated. You might not be able to close debate, but is it, do I understand that right, that you have a commitment?

KM: He made the commitment to the Speaker that he would not filibuster the bills to be brought up for approps, because right now, the thing the American people do not know, what the Democrats have done, they’re the ones that were shutting down government. They were the ones that were not allowing in the Senate anything to be brought up, to actually hold the country hostage. Remember, when we did the Defense bill, what did the President do? He vetoed it. He was putting our veterans in play on politics, which has never been done in the past. But now, we’ve got, in that agreement, where Reid publicly said he would not filibuster, so we can get onto the bills and start debating the approps process, and now that we had the agreement ahead of time for the dollar amount, we can be able to move what you talked as regular order as well. But this is where real work can be done.
