Republican Sen. David Vitter says he is not going to run again for the U.S. Senate after losing in an upset race for governor to Democrat John Bel Edwards.

Vitter made the announcement during an appearance to campaign supporters in the New Orleans suburbs Saturday evening after it became apparent that he would not win the governor’s race.

Vitter, who has one year left in his second U.S. Senate term, told supporters that before entering the governor’s race, he and his wife had decided that he would not seek another term in the Senate.

The news marks a stunning fall for Vitter, who just months ago had been considered the front-runner to replace term-limited Gov. Bobby Jindal.

Well when you put up a sleaze bag R against a D who is a vet, supports guns and limiting abortions.... what do you expect?

Getting caught with a lady of the evening doesn't exactly look good on a resume, kid...rolleyes.gif

I am reminded of a question asked of Jesse Ventrua when he was running for Gov. here....Q. "Did You Ever Smoke Grass?" A. "Oh Hell Yeah...All The Time." At that point the "issue" went away. IMO whet he should have done is 1. admit it, 2. say it was a really really stupid thing to do, 3. ask people if they had ever done anything really stupid.

Hey Republicans, You Can’t Just Run Against Barack Obama to Save Bad Candidates

By: Erick Erickson (Diary) | November 23rd, 2015 at 04:00 AM

The Louisiana Governor’s Mansion flipped to the Democrats just four years after Bobby Jindal won re-election against a Democrat who only got 17% of the vote with Jindal winning every parish. There are some lessons national Republicans should take away.

First, candidates matter.Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) 84% was a terrible candidate. He threw Bobby Jindal under the bus to show Louisiana that he too was tired of Jindal. The state party did not take so kindly to Vitter’s scorched earth policy against Republicans. But then there were the prostitutes. Oh, and there was the abortion. Scissors-32x32.png

Louisiana Goes Blue. Or Does It?

Most reports suggest Louisiana Republicans suffered another blow this weekend. Not only did Governor Bobby Jindal recently end his presidential campaign, meaning his political talents won't be brought to the White House, but a conservative won't be filling his vacated seat. On Saturday, Republican Sen. David Vitter dropped the gubernatorial election to John Bel Edwards, a state Democrat lawmaker, by a 12-point margin — 56% to 44%. The sting hurts even more considering Vitter was long believed to be a shoo-in. Ultimately, however, a prostitution scandal from 2007 and a well-resonating message from Edwards derailed Vitter's chances.

Which brings us to a few critical points. This wasn't, as some newspapers surmise, a "Republican loss" so much as it was a reflection on values. As Hot Air notes, "If you dropped [Edwards] anywhere else in the country he'd be a Republican Scissors-32x32.pnghttp://patriotpost.us/posts/39070
