Bernie Sanders attacked Hillary Clinton harder than ever before in Saturday night’s second Democratic presidential debate, which opened on foreign policy but quickly shifted to economic and social issues.

A day after 129 people were killed in a coordinated terrorist attack on Paris, all three candidates began the contest with statements calling for the destruction of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), which has claimed responsibility.

Sanders, however, quickly pivoted to income inequality and campaign finance reform, themes of his campaign that has represented a surprisingly strong challenge to Clinton.

The Independent senator from Vermont was much more aggressive than in the first debate, which sapped his momentum and was widely seen as having been won by Clinton.

He linked Clinton’s vote in favor of the war in Iraq to the rise of ISIS, and later provoked Clinton by suggesting the former New York senator could not be trusted to regulate Wall Street given the “millions of dollars” she had received in campaign contributions from bankers in the district.

Clinton counter-attacked effectively at times during the debate, but also appeared to slip with some of her responses.

Accusing Sanders of impugning “my integrity,” Clinton even appeared to link the September 11, 2001 attacks to the generous donations she received from Wall Street. Scissors-32x32.png

Look, Ma, No Islam — The Stupefying Democratic Debate

Well, we did learn two things from the CBS Democratic debate Saturday night:

1. Bernie Sanders thinks climate change causes terrorism.

How this piece of magic works, he didn’t get to explain, so we can only imagine. Maybe it ‘s a hot desert wind making normal people go to extremes, as in the famous opening of Raymond Chandler’s “Red Wind”:

There was a desert wind blowing that night. It was one of those hot dry Santa Ana’s that come down through the mountain passes and curl your hair and make your nerves jump and your skin itch. On nights like that every booze party ends in a fight. Meek little wives feel the edge of the carving knife and study their husbands’ necks. Anything can happen. You can even get a full glass of beer at a cocktail lounge.

That global warming — it will get you every time. ISIS-shmicis. Forget Islam having anything to do with it. Bernie doesn’t even want to pronounce the word. But neither, it seems, do any Democrats. I have a suggestion for them. When talking about World War II, don’t, under any circumstances, refer to our enemies as Nazis. It’s terribly un-PC. Call them National Socialists… oh, wait.Scissors-32x32.png

Democrats back higher taxes on wealthy, corporations

Democratic presidential candidates backed significantly higher taxes on wealthy individuals and corporations in their debate Saturday night.

Challenged to describe how they would raise revenues for their spending agendas, the Democrats, who have so far shied away from detailed revenue plans, endorsed popular tax hikes.

Hillary Clinton, the front-runner, promised no new taxes on middle-class families, while her two challengers endorsed higher tax rates on top individual taxes and on investments.

"Hard-working middle class families need a raise, not a tax increase," the former secretary of state said.Scissors-32x32.png

Sanders: Climate change a bigger threat than terrorism

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders argued that climate change is a bigger threat to the world than terrorism during Saturday night's Democratic presidential debate.

When pressed by CBS's John Dickerson, Sanders doubled down on the claim, saying that, in fact, climate change is "directly related to the growth of terrorism" across the globe, pointing to limited amounts of water.

"Absolutely," Sanders said when asked if he still believed climate change was a bigger threat. "In fact, climate change is directly related to the growth of terrorism."Scissors-32x32.png

Sanders: We Don’t Need No Stinking Foreign Policy!
John Hinderaker
November 14, 2015

Via Drudge, there was a “bizarre,” “heated” telephone exchange this morning between representatives of CBS, which is hosting tonight’s Democratic presidential debate, and one of Bernie Sanders’ top aides. CBS had representatives of all three campaigns–Clinton, Sanders and O’Malley–on the phone, discussing CBS’s plan to change the format of the debate to take into account yesterday’s terrorist attacks in Paris:

The dispute centered on CBS’s decision to increase the emphasis on terrorism, foreign policy, and national security in the wake of the attacks that left more than 100 people dead in Paris on Friday night. According to the rival staffer, Sanders strategist Mark Longabaugh lit into CBS vice president and Washington bureau chief Christopher Isham when the changes to the debate were detailed on the call.

“It was a little bit of a bizarre scene. The Sanders representative, you know, really laid into CBS and basically … kind of threw, like, a little bit of a fit and said, ‘You are trying to turn this into a foreign policy debate. That’s not what any of us agreed to. How can you change the terms of the debate, you know, on the day of the debate. That’s not right,’” the staffer recounted. …

The Left has no answer for Islamic terrorism, and Bernie Sanders, like President Obama, wishes it would just go away. In the alternative, if it won’t go away, he would rather not talk about it. In foreign policy, Leftists like Sanders and Obama are at sea any time their favorite narrative does not apply, i.e., the U.S. can’t be painted as the villain.
