america-doesnt-workRedState: America Doesn’t Work Workforce Participation Rate Lowest Since 1977

By: Repair_Man_Jack (Diary) | October 3rd, 2015 at 08:05 AM

The Bureau of Labor Statistics has issued a new set of monthly numbers. We get the following according to CNSNews.

A record 94,610,000 Americans were not in the American labor force last month — an increase of 579,000 from August — and the labor force participation rate reached its lowest point in 38 years, with 62.4 percent of the U.S. population either holding a job or actively seeking one.

This occurred because the economy added far fewer jobs than were previously forecasted. This is despite that the widely reported U3 statistic remained predictably disingenuous at a 5.1% rate of reportable unemployment. Here’s what was previously forecasted. Scissors-32x32.png

Here is what is really happening in America. For the 3rd month in a row the BLS reports that native-born Americans saw their employment numbers decrease while people from overseas were hired in increasing numbers. Scissors-32x32.png

The Big Jobs Miss

The hiring slowdown has now stretched into three months.

Oct. 2, 2015 7:24 p.m. ET

The labor market is supposed to be the strong point of this underwhelming U.S. economic recovery, so Friday’s weak jobs report for September came as a jolt to investors and perhaps to the Federal Reserve. The question is whether this is another slow patch of the kind we’ve seen so often during this expansion, or a signal of something worse.

It’s certainly hard to find much good news in the September numbers. Employers added 142,00 net new jobs, but only 118,000 in the private economy. Payrolls were revised lower by 59,000 for July and August, for a monthly average of only 167,000 in the third quarter. That’s down from a monthly average of 198,000 for all of 2015 so far, which is down from 260,000 a month in 2014.

Worse, the labor participation rate—a key measure of labor market health—fell to 62.4%, Scissors-32x32.png

New Jobs Numbers Out: “You Can’t Throw Lipstick on this Pig of a Report”

Posted by Amy Miller October 2, 2015 at 1:20pm

The latest jobs report released today could spell trouble for the US economy—and workers.

According to analysts, the economy underperformed in terms of jobs created.

Experts surveyedby CNNMoney estimated that we would see a net gain of 204,000 jobs in this report; gains in excess of 200,000 are considered “healthy,” so this was an optimistic prediction. In reality, however, the economy only added 142,000 jobs in September—an “unhealthy” diagnosis.

The unemployment held steady at 5.1%; however, labor force participation rate dropped to 62.4 percent (from 62.6 percent), and the three month average for job creation has stagnated well below 200,000. Scissors-32x32.png

Three takeaways from September’s dismal jobs report

BY KEVIN G. HALL / khall@mcclatchydc.com / WASHINGTON

September hiring fell well short of consensus expectations and previous economic growth was less robust than thought, new Labor Department statistics say in a dismal monthly report that painted a picture of an economy in downshift mode.

Employers added a disappointing 142,000 jobs in September, the Labor Department said Friday, and added just 136,000 jobs in August, a revision of an earlier estimate of 173,000.

The unemployment rate held steady at 5.1 percent, but wage growth was flat for the month, meaning workers weren’t taking home more. Scissors-32x32.png

Record 94,610,000 Americans Not in Labor Force; Participation Rate Lowest in 38 Years

By Susan Jones | October 2, 2015 | 8:56 AM EDT

(CNSNews.com) - A record 94,610,000 Americans were not in the American labor force last month -- an increase of 579,000 from August -- and the labor force participation rate reached its lowest point in 38 years, with 62.4 percent of the U.S. population either holding a job or actively seeking one.

In other disappointing news, the economy added only 142,000 jobs in September, well below economists' expectations, but the unemployment rate remained at 5.1 percent, where it was in August.Scissors-32x32.png
