AUSTIN – While calling for fast action to beef up ethics law and spending on border security, transportation and education, Gov. Greg Abbott affirmed his strong support Tuesday for significant property tax cuts for Texas taxpayers.

 

In a State of the State speech before a joint session of the Legislature, his first major policy speech, Abbott said his proposed budget calls for a $2.2 billion cut in property taxes and a $2 billion reduction in business franchise taxes.

 

He said his budget includes funding "that makes school districts whole for any tax revenue they might lose."
