Valin
Independent Journal Review: When The Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFR) sent Mary’s Gourmet Diner a letter that they were violating civil rights by giving discounts to customers for praying before eating, The Daily Show came to Mary’s defense. Daily Show host Jon Stewart sent out Jordan Klepper (who happens to be an atheist himself) to investigate how exactly Mary’s could have violated civil rights. Klepper even had a sit down interview with FFR member Dan Barker to discuss his case against Mary’s. Barker told Klepper: “‘Mary’s Gourmet Diner is very significant. Under the law, Selma (a reference to where Martin Luther King marched for civil rights) and a 15% discount are the same thing.” “In one case it was race or skin color, in this case it’s religion.” After Barker confessed that nobody from FFR had actually been to Mary’s Gourmet diner, Klepper decided to go to the source to see the ‘so-called discrimination’ for himself. He even sat down with diner owner Mary Haglund. (Snip) http://youtu.be/Ft0FFE2efoM
