President Obama is expected to select Loretta Lynch, a U.S. attorney in Brooklyn, as his nominee to replace Eric Holder as U.S. Attorney General, according to CNN.

Lynch is the U.S. attorney for the eastern district of New York. She was appointed by Obama in 2010. She served in the same post under President Bill Clinton from 1999-2001.

The Washington Examiner reported in October that she was on Obama's short list.

According to Geee's link, she hasn't worked any particularly difficult cases. Ohaha's really scraping the bottom of the barrel here.

OBAMA'S ATTORNEY GENERAL NOMINEE LORETTA LYNCH REPRESENTED CLINTONS DURING WHITEWATER

New York federal prosecutor Loretta Lynch, the new nominee for attorney general, has a career filled with high profile cases -- and she was a member of Bill Clinton's defense team during the 1992 Whitewater corruption probe.

As he made his announcement Saturday afternoon, Obama called the two-time U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York a "tough, fair and independent" lawyer.

"It's pretty hard to be more qualified for this job than Loretta Lynch," Obama said.

Indeed, the prosecutor has a long career built of some high profile cases but there is one case Lynch was involved in that few are talking about. Lynch was a part of Bill Clinton's Whitewater probe defense team in 1992.

In 1992, the Clintons came under fire for investing in a perennially failing Arkansas real estate company known as Whitewater Development, a venture heavily subsidized by Clinton friend Jim McDougal in an effort to soften the losses the Clintons were experiencing as investors. The probe was widened to look into the failure of the Madison Guaranty Savings and Loan to which it was connected. Eventually the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission won several convictions handing jail time to the McDougals as well as Arkansas Governor Jim Guy Tucker.

The Clintons escaped any convictions in the probe.Scissors-32x32.png

Cruz and Lee: Holder’s Replacement Must Denounce Obama’s Executive Amnesty
Joel Gehrke
November 8, 2014

Senator Ted Cruz (R., Texas) and Senator Mike Lee (R., Utah) called for U.S. attorney Loretta Lynch, President Obama’s nominee to replace Attorney General Eric Holder, to state her support or opposition to the executive orders pertaining to immigration that the president has promised to issue.

“President Obama’s Attorney General nominee deserves fair and full consideration of the United States Senate, which is precisely why she should not be confirmed in the lame duck session of Congress by senators who just lost their seats and are no longer accountable to the voters,” the senators said Saturday. ”The Attorney General is the President’s chief law enforcement officer. As such, the nominee must demonstrate full and complete commitment to the law. Loretta Lynch deserves the opportunity to demonstrate those qualities, beginning with a statement whether or not she believes the President’s executive amnesty plans are constitutional and legal.”

Eric Holder’s Perfect Successor

It would be difficult to imagine any Attorney General nominee who could guarantee a more seamless transition from the Eric Holder years than Loretta Lynch, who has been the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York since 2010. Her uncanny ability to detect phantoms of white racism lurking ominously around every corner is proof-positive of her fitness to serve as Holder’s successor in the Obama administration.

Lynch believes that voter ID laws are part of a racist effort to suppress minority turnout at the polls. “Fifty years after the civil rights movement,” she avers, “we stand in this country at a time when we see people trying to take back so much of what Dr. [Martin Luther] King fought for … and [to] reverse the [gains] that have been made in voting in this country.” Consequently, Lynch is eminently “proud” that the Justice Department has filed suit against states which have enacted voter ID laws “seek[ing] to limit our ability to stand up and exercise our rights as citizens.” Lynch also supports efforts to restore the voting rights of (disproportionately black) convicted felons who “have served their debt to society”—a measure that would “en[d] the chain of permanent disenfranchisement that visits many of them.”Scissors-32x32.png
