BAGHDAD — To the villagers who fled, Zowiya is now a graveyard for all they’ve ever known. Their houses have been razed, their neighbors are dead, and their tribal codes have been violated in ways they never dreamed possible.

 

For the extremist fighters who overran Zowiya this week in a fury of mortars and bullets, the ruins of the Sunni Muslim village carry a different symbolism: an example for any “turncoats” who dare resist the Islamic State’s self-proclaimed caliphate.

 

“What we saw is nothing like anything in all of history, not even under Hulagu,” said a 55-year-old survivor of the attack, Abu Omar al Jubouri, alluding to the 13th century Mongol ruler who laid waste to Baghdad.

 

The Islamic State heralded the “cleansing” of the village, which is near Tikrit in northern Iraq, in an Internet posting, bragging that it had blown up villagers’ homes, which it called “hideouts,”

While President Barack Obama (D) babbles about the solid foundation Muslims have bequeathed the US and condemns Israel for defending itself against Muslim slaughter, let us turn to their ignored moral foundation in Iraq. (remember that country?)

 

Jim Hoft of Gateway Pundit has posted ;some truly appalling and barbaric videos of a mass slaughter of young men by the brutal Islamic State. The victims' crimes? They were Shiite Muslims who reject a branch of Sunni caliphate; Muslims--indeed the entire world--united under an extreme, primitive Muslim leader. (Video removed by YouTube.)

Tribesmen force IS militants out of Syrian villages

The group was forced to bring in reinforcements from Iraq after members of the Shueitat tribe drove the fighters out of the villages of Kishkiyeh, Abu Hamam and Granij.

The tribesmens rise against the Islamic State group was the first sign of local resistance to the extremists since its fighters captured large parts of the oil-rich eastern province of Deir El Zour in recent weeks.

 

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and Turkey-based activist Mustafa Osso said the group was forced to bring in reinforcements from neighbouring Iraq after members of the Shueitat tribe drove the fighters out of the villages of Kishkiyeh, Abu Hamam and Granij.

 

The Observatory, a Britain-based group relying on activists inside Syria, said tribesmen torched the local headquarters of the Islamic State group in the nearby town of Ashara and that residents demonstrated against the group.
