CNSNews.com) - Two weeks after he told the nation he was sending 300 American military advisers to Iraq, President Obama has doubled the number of U.S. troops in that dangerous part of the world.

The president notified Congress on Monday, in a letter, that he is sending another 300 troops to Iraq. Two hundred of them will boost security at the large U.S. embassy and at the international airport in Baghdad; they arrieved on Sunday and Monday, the Associated Press reported.

Another 100 troops, who had been on standby in the Middle East since mid-June, will go to Baghdad to provide security and logistics support, the Pentagon announced.

"The president authorized this augmentation as a prudent measure to protect U.S. citizens and property," Pentagon Press Secretary Navy Rear Adm. John Kirby said in a statement.

I guess the Left is comfortable with our quiet troop buildup in Iraq.

By: Moe Lane (Diary) | July 2nd, 2014 at 10:00 AM

Refreshing: despite my earlier sardonic commentary about Democrats rolling over on this, I still wondered whether we’d have moreprogressives protesting over this. Or rioting. Guess even the most hardcore Lefty can detect a brick wall after he’s run into it six or seven times.

The United States has sent Apache attack helicopters to Iraq as part of the buildup in U.S. military personnel, the Pentagon said Tuesday.

Officials would not say how many of the armed helicopters have been sent to the country, stating only that they will be based in Baghdad and could assist with evacuations of American personnel. Scissors-32x32.png

The order brought the total number of U.S. ground forces in Iraq to 750.

…Wasn’t it supposed to be capped at 300? Why, yes. Yes, it was Scissors-32x32.png

Congress Can Stop Obama’s Ramp Up to War

By PATRICK J. BUCHANANJuly 1, 2014, 8:55 AM

Barack Obama has asked Congress for $500 million to train and arm rebels of the Free Syrian Army who seek to overthrow the government. Before Congress takes up his proposal, both houses should demand that Obama explain exactly where he gets the constitutional authority to plunge us into what the president himself calls “somebody else’s civil war.”

Syria has not attacked us. Syria does not threaten us. Why are we joining a jihad to overthrow the Syrian government?

President Bashar Assad is fighting against the al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra Front and the even more extreme and vicious Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. In training and arming the FSA, we are enlisting in a cause where our foremost fighting allies are Islamists, like those who brought down the twin towers, and a Sunni terrorist army that seeks to bring down the government we left behind in Baghdad.

What are we doing?

American advisers to Viet… Iraq… expanded to 3,550.

By: Moe Lane (Diary) | June 10th, 2015 at 10:30 PM

I don’t know what’s more aggravating: that President Barack Obama thinks that a nickel-and-dime re-insertion of troops in Iraq is the smart play here, or that he’s had over a year to come out with a better idea and came up empty. Scissors-32x32.png

I do know one thing, though. It’ll be a cold day in Hell before an American President ever uses Barack Obama in a meaningful foreign policy fashion. Not much of a comfort, I know, but you have to work with what you have. Scissors-32x32.png

As Obama escalates war on IS, Congress must give OK

With the president adding more troops in Iraq against Islamic State, the need for war authorization become more necessary. The war's future requires both disciplined thinking and political consensus.

By the Monitor's Editorial Board

JUNE 10, 2015

As the Islamic State displays more military strength in Iraq and Syria, President Obama has decided to deploy more soldiers to the war zone, which is already swarming with American war jets and drones. On Wednesday, he ordered an additional 450 troops to Iraq, bringing the total to some 3,500. Scissors-32x32.png

Mr. Obama will need more than a troop surge or a winning strategy against the Islamic militants. Without a consensus in Congress in the form of legal authorization for this war, the commander in chief is missing out on the collective wisdom of the American people in determining its purpose and conduct.
