A Kuwaiti official says health centers may start using their medical screenings of expatriates to “detect” gays and bar them from entering Gulf states.

“Health centers conduct the routine medical check to assess the health of the expatriates when they come into the GCC countries,” Yousuf Mindkar, the director of public health at Kuwait’s health ministry, told the Al Rai newspaper on Monday, according to Gulf News.

“However, we will take stricter measures that will help us detect gays who will be then barred from entering Kuwait or any of the GCC member states,” he added.

The Gulf Cooperation Countries include Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, where homosexual acts are banned, Gulf News reports.

Mindkar did not say how the medical screenings would reveal gays.
