(CNN) -- In two operations nearly 3,000 miles apart, U.S. military forces went after two high-value targets over the weekend. And while officials have yet to say whether the operations were coordinated or directly related, they show Washington's reach, capability and willingness to pursue alleged terrorists.

One operation took place Saturday in the Libyan capital of Tripoli, when U.S. forces captured Abu Anas al Libi, an al Qaeda leader wanted for his role in the deadly 1998 bombings of two U.S. embassies in Africa.

In the second raid, a team of U.S. Navy SEALs in southern Somalia targeted the top leader of Al-Shabaab, which was behind last month's mall attack in Kenya. The SEALs came under fire and had to withdraw before they could confirm whether they killed their target, a senior U.S. official said.

I wonder if ol' Abu has an attorney yet? And was he read his Miranda Rights? Will we be able to get any intelligence out of the guy before he begins to prep for his trial in NEW YORK??? This guy is a terrorist, not a GD bank robber.

Just basing thoughts on what Eric has already done in past with these guys. Someday, someone may take this crap seriously.

Oh make no mistake there are plenty of people (on both sides) who take this stuff very seriously. Its just that Eric Holder and Barack Obama are not two of them.

Why raids against terrorists arent enough

Paul Mirengoff

Over the weekend, the U.S. conducted two raids in Africa against terrorists. In Libya, we captured Nazih Abdul-Hamed al-Ruqai, alias Abu Anas al-Liby, who is wanted for the bombing of two U.S. embassies in Africa in 1998. In Somalia, we targeted a senior leader of the Shabab, the Islamist terrorist group responsible for the massacre at the Westgate mall in Nairobi. We dont know whether we killed the target. Scott wrote about the raids here.

The Obama administration should be commended for ordering the raids. However, we shouldnt think for one moment that they are an adequate response to the growing success of al Qaeda and other Islamist terrorists in the Middle East, Asia, and North Africa, and to the threat this success poses to our security.

The raids are analogous to pulling a few weeds in a few isolated flower beds. That isnt gardening.
