Geee
Washington Examiner: publicans in mostly western states with significant Hispanic populations will be the targets of $200,000 in Spanish-language ads by the Service Employees International Union calling on them to back the Senate immigration reform bill. The radio ads will be targeted at California Reps. Jeff Denham, David Valadao, Gary Miller and Howard McKeon, Colorado’s Scott Tipton and Mike Coffman, Nevada’s Joe Heck and Mark Amodei, Randy Weber of Texas and Florida’s Daniel Webster. The ads are hard-edged. The text — an English language version of which can be found here — accuses those who do not support the reform bill of being in league with “extreme members of the Republican Party who continue to express harmful statements about immigrants, stigmatizing them as ‘criminals’ and ‘takers.’ ” The ad calls this “offensive and an insult to our community.” Sign Up for the Politics Today newsletter! In a statement announcing the ad buy, SEIU Secretary-Treasurer Eliseo Medina said: “This ad campaign isn’t just about these House Republicans whose leadership can fulfill the hopes of their constituents, including millions of aspiring Americans. This is also about sending a clear message to the GOP: you can’t, and the American public certainly won’t allow you to, ignore the mainstream call for commonsense immigration reform.”
