Pepper
@Draggingtree it is outrageous particularly now given the spying by Holder to hold an off the record meeting. Anyone attending is a suck up, toady, sycophant, bootlicker and so on

Draggingtree
News Execs, Holder Discuss Subpoena Issue News Execs, Holder Discuss Subpoena IssueBy Pete Yost - May 31, 2013 WASHINGTON (AP) -- In a meeting with Attorney General Eric Holder, executives from several news organizations said government officials expressed a commitment to changing guidelines on issuing subpoenas in criminal investigations involving reporters. The news executives made the comments Thursday after meeting with Holder and some of his aides. The discussion took place following an outcry from news organizations over the Justice Department's secret gathering of some Associated Press reporters' phone records and some emails of a Fox News journalist. Last week, President Barack Obama ordered a review of the Justice Department guidelines. One of the news media participants, Marty Baron, executive editor of the Washington Post, said the news executives told the department officials that reporters were concerned about using their email and concerned about using their office telephones. snip http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2013/05/31/news_execs_holder_discuss_subpoena_issue_118628.html
Draggingtree
7 Reasons Why the Media Shouldn't Keep Eric Holder's Secrets What "off the record" means and why it matters to you. By Ron Fournier Updated: May 30, 2013 | 11:43 a.m.May 30, 2013 | 9:19 a.m. The dustup over whether journalists should meet privately with Attorney General Eric Holder is a forest-for-the-trees flap. That brings us to the Holder-media issue. While being the ultimate inside-baseball story, it does highlight the Obama administration's ignorance of the media's role in Washington as well as the malpractice that permeates its communications operation. How the administration handles a micro issue like this may have a negative impact on the existential struggle. A forest, after all, is a gathering of trees. The basic facts: The media's fundamental job is to shine a light in the darkest corners of government. If we stand for anything, it's transparency and accountability. Meeting secretly with Holder borders on hypocrisy. http://www.nationaljournal.com/politics/7-reasons-why-the-media-shouldn-t-keep-eric-holder-s-secrets-20130530
Draggingtree
Washington Post: The Justice Department has allowed us to say AG Holder supports press freedom Sean Higgins Senior Editorial Writer May 31, 2013 | 11:00 am | Modified: May 31, 2013 at 11:20 am As The Washington Examiner‘s own Susan Ferrechio reports Friday most news organizations boycotted on principle Attorney General Eric Holder’s offer to join a press conference Thursday in which he discussed the Obama’s White House various efforts to monitor, intimidate and harass journalists. Holder’s condition was that the meeting be “off the record,” meaning none of the reporters would be allowed to report what was said at the meeting. Among those who did attend was the Washington Post. Today’s Post has an account of the meeting — sort of. That is, they have a story about what the Justice Department allowed them to say about its efforts to protect press freedom. The result is just beyond parody (All emphasis is added): http://washingtonexaminer.com/washington-post-the-justice-department-has-allowed-us-to-say-ag-holder-supports-press-freedom/article/2530898
Casino67
I think Holder would have had a better turnout if he had mentioned "Open Bar" on the invite.

Now we know (and who could possibly doubt his truthfulness on this), and can move on to more fruitful areas of debate and investigation. Like why are Conservatives so hateful?
